Granted, you didn't win 4 shards and a crystal- but then, thanks to the random number generator, you have a good chance of not winning each time you roll for an item against your other four party members. When you decide to play nicely with other people, your odds improve. I'd prefer a 3 in 5 chance or even 2 in 5 chance of winning a shard or crystal at the end of a run to a 1 in 5 each time. But maybe that's just me.

I'll add also that there's a chance that someone may decide to pass on their share of the shards and let the enchanter keep them. Doesn't always happen, but sometimes it does, especially if you're running with a guildie or two.

Not long ago I did a heroic run with one guildie and a PUG and at the end of the run, everyone hearthed out so fast (like, immediately after the boss was dead and they decided that no one could use the drop) that I didn't have time to remember to have them roll on the shards. So when I got back to Dal, I dropped shards in the mail to the three PUG members. The next day, one of them had sent his shard back, telling me he was so impressed that I went to the trouble of mailing it to him instead of keeping it for myself that he wanted me to have it.

Nice people do happen along once in a while, and karma does indeed work as intended. If you're an ***, chances are much higher that someone is going to be an *** to you in return. On the other hand, if you go out of your way to be nice to someone--even at detriment to your own personal interests--the chances are higher someone is going to be nice to you.

Okay, since this has been bumped recently, I'll reiterate what I said before in another thread. If you're an enchanter, and decide not to offer to DE for a group, it's your right. However, you're more likely to get disenchanting goods if you are willing to DE. Why do I say this? Simple. You are one of five people rolling each time for the items that drop, if nobody needs them. Each time you roll Greed, you have a 1 in 5 chance of getting an item. Let's use an analogy, and say you're in a group with 5 items that drop that nobody needs, and everyone wants to greed roll for vendor.

Scenario One wrote:
Item 1: Everyone rolls, and you roll a 2. Someone else rolls 68 and wins a pair of blue pants.
Item 2: Everyone rolls, and you roll 53. Someone else rolls 82 and wins a pair of blue pants.
Item 3: Everyone rolls, and you roll 78. Someone else rolls 97 and wins a pair of blue pants.
Item 4: Everyone rolls, and you roll 16. Someone else rolls 85 and wins a pair of blue bracers.
Item 5: Everyone rolls, and you roll 91. Someone else rolls 99 and wins a purple chest piece.

You win nothing in that scenario, and the other people that won something get to vendor it- which probably won't be worth as much as the Dream Shards or Abyss Crystals they might have won. Now, on to another scenario where everyone passes on each item that they don't need, and you pick them up. At the end of the run, you all roll for shards.

Scenario Two wrote:

The tank rolls 82.
Druid healer rolls 97.
Death Knight rolls 85.
Warlock rolls 99.
You roll 91.

The shards are divvied up evenly. The Warlock, having the highest roll, gets the Abyss Crystal. The rest of you get one Dream Shard each.

Granted, you didn't win 4 shards and a crystal- but then, thanks to the random number generator, you have a good chance of not winning each time you roll for an item against your other four party members. This is well said. After heroics, you will always have everyone obtain something. When I run I have a simple set of rules if we manage to find a DE'er.

If you win a roll on gear, you get no shards nor can you roll on Orb. You already won something.
If you win a roll on orb, you get no shards.

Usually I run with geared groups who need no gear so it's very simple.
Every instance you run has between 3-5 bosses.

If 3 bosses, the drops are usually 3 blues, 1 purple, 1 Orb. 1st roll is Orb, 2nd is Abyss. Rest get shards, no one leaves empty handed.

If 4 bosses, same thing but 2nd highest roller gets 2 shards.

If 5 bosses, everyone gets a dream shard to split it fully, then Orb and Abyss are only separate rolls. It works out very well because there is never anyone getting nothing. Most times if I win the 2 shards, I pass one off to the chanter as a tip for their work.

I agree that everyone rolling can suck because as you said, there are chances 1 person will win more than others and others that may win nothing at all which is pretty not fun!

Good post and rate up for you :D

Y'know, I've made it a point of pride for a good six years now to never mention, much less complain, about my posts being rated up or down, but...someone rated down that extremely innocuous last post I made? Seriously?

LOL, thanks. It wasn't the rating down that bothered me, because I just genuinely don't care about my ratings. But THAT post, which could not have been less controversial, of all possible posts? I mean, really. There's being petty and butt-hurt, and then there's whatever the hell that was.
