Enchanting Concern:Follow

#1 Apr 17 2009 at 7:51 PM Rating: Default
I noticed some chants having "required level: X" on them.
The problem is this number doesn't seem to show(unless I own NO level based chants...) in my Enchanting tab.
I'm building a new char and I wish to use Crusader on the BoA weapon(if possible?) but does this have a req level? What about Fiery? Icy?

As far as I know, none of the enchantments you mentioned have a level requirement.

The trouble is that the level requirements for enchantments don't show up unless your character is too low to use them.

We've got a lvl 19 twink in my guild that asked for the +100 health chest enchant. This has been pretty much standard fare for lvl 19 twinks and I couldn't see any restrictions on the enchant so I happily cast it. Next thing I know, the twink is saying that he can't use the chestpiece until level 30 now.

Even if he links the item in gchat, there's no restriction shown to the rest of us.

I believe i read somewhere they changed a few things in the expansion so that higher level enchants were no longer usable by very low level characters , same for the leather patches that i had previously put on low level gear for my alts .

I would have done some searching to add extra info but alla is going very slow at loading pages at the moment for me and its time i was at work.

my understanding is that those enchants APPEAR on the Lowbie's gear, but they are just 'greyed out'

I thought the gear could still be used by characters to low for the enchant (given you're high enough to wear the gear of course) but the enchant itself would not render any effects until the character reached the required level of the enchant.

For a twink this is still pointless but not quite as bad as applying an enchant to an extremely difficult to obtain item (or an item you can only get once through a quest) rendering it useless until the character levelled up, thus defeating the point of twinking.

I hate twinking, but if that's what a player wants to do so be it. Blizzard seems to dislike but tolerate it some degree. If Blizzard really hated it, they'd make changes such that the latter behavior I described occurred.

EDIT: Another way to think of it is similar to the set bonuses based on profession. I have to be a leatherworker to get the bonus but I do not have to be a leatherworker to wear the item. This caused mass confusion of the general populace when BC came out and I still see level 80s "go off" on people in Trade chat arguing incorrectly hehe.

even if the enchant would cause the player to not be able to wear the gear, you should be able to replace the enchant with a lower level one thus re-enabling the dude to wear it. Then you are only out some gold on enchanting mats rather than losing out on twink gear.

Twinks, its the reason I skip all BG's until the 40's
