What zone is best for Mithril? Last night I tried a few zones: Searing Gorge, Hinterlands and Tanaris and didn't really reach a consensus. I'm at 215 right now and discovering leveling mining can be the sux! :)

Hmm...I will check out the comments through your link. Keep in mind I was soliciting an opinion though, and not just looking for a newb link.

I found a mixture of zones worked. If you're the grinding type, caves in a few zones work well (Isle of Dread in Feralas, Silithid cave in Thousand Needles, and every other cave in 1k Needles has one spawn of Mithril and 2 of Iron). I also hear that the Yeti caves in Alterac have a few spawns, but I have never tried them myself.

Odd: I got rated down for actually giving good advice! Not complaining, but that's a first, haha.

Yeah Mike. Don't teach a man to fish. Go catch the damn fish for him. And, tell him where the best fishing holes are too, while you're at it.

I can add that it all depends on how many farmers are in that zone with you as all zones suck if other farmers are there , easiest place i found was Tanaris but that was at level 70 and very late at night and it was some time ago.

Best bet is try and find somewhere others are not farming or wait until they go away.

I think you missed the point of the link. Notice how many dots there are on the map that represents mithril, as well as the numbers next to the zones that show Hinterlands has the most.

I see. You want opinion, not fact. That's really smart!

Tanaris is the best. Sure, hinterlands has more nodes, but take a look at the map. They are scattered all over the place. Tanaris is better, as many of the nodes are on the outskirts of the zone, making it easier to hit many potential node spots while riding.

Good luck!

Mike, no offense intended believe me...I just appreciate people's opinions on things and their analysis more than maps/dots, etc. I had good luck in Tanaris today-If I may ask another question...

How does the node respawning work? Is there a set time limit on them? Does each node have "X" number of places where it can pop? Thanks.

I powerlvled my mining through the Badlands. It seems big but after one circuit I came out with 4-6 stacks depending on farmers. (Course i guess i was farming myself....hmm.....)

As far as i can tell node points are set time limits ( time varies on types ) but can also be shared with other node points and also the chance that 'rare' stuff like silver and gold can also spawn in places where the usual metal spawns , i am guessing someone knows in more detail what the maths is but it is not that hard to see what is going on and where to go.

depending on your level . . .

I just "power leveled" my mining as a 60 DK.
This is the Mithril path i took:

Goto Stone Talon Mts and run around the crater (charred valley). Then zone down into Desolace, and run around the zone, ending back at the top of the zone. Check the charred valley and repeat.

I also ran around W. Plague Lands, mith is in there too.

And if both zones had people I went to Hinterlands

If you want real easy mode, down load Gatherer add-on, and then get the WoWHead Database add-on for Gatherer, and Cartographer.

Once all is set up and you download the database, you will be shown ALL mining nodes on the map. Filter out one you don't really need to see and chart a course to run.

I would suggest W. Plague Lands when it is time to move onto the next ore (thorium ? i can't spell..) as most in the one will be Small. Get the easy hits, and when you get closer to 285 (the skill needed for Rich iirc) then move to Un'goro Crater (crater is usually packed with people, and the last 15 points can suck if there are so many there).

Now if you waited out to lvl a skill, and you are like 70+ when you get to thorium, you could goto sithillius (sp). You will probably have the entire zone to yourself as most stay in the Crater

Don't forget you can skillup mining with smelting. I don't recall if smelting thorium is possible at 215, but you may be able to get some easy skillups by buying thorium at the AH (or borrowing from friends) and turning the ore into bars. If you borrowed the ore, of course you should be nice and return the bars. :)

Sadly, by the time you can mine thorium, smelting it is gray so you can't get any skillups from smelting what you have mined. Go figure.

Silithus is great for the rich thorium veins when you get to that point. You just can't be afraid of bugs is all hehe. Good luck!

I believe silver is the last ore that you can get skill ups for when smelting.

I've parked my level 69 DK in whatever zone I need to level my mining and just queue for BG's. It breaks up the power grind and I'm raking in the honor at the *9 level as well. Being able to queue for a BG from anywhere is freaking AWESOME!!

ahhh, sorry for the necro. I haven't had my coffee yet this morning and forgot I clicked through some pages in my boredom at work. Admins, feel free to delete and send it back as needed (not like an admin needs my permission to do anything...but you may go to the bathroom if you want as well)
