I just got blacksmithing, but I don't know what to do! Do I also need mining to get ores?

Yes you need mining to do blacksmithing or you could buy the ores off the AU but that route can be pricey considering for a stack of copper ore goes for now , unless of course you are high level and flush with gold then it doesn't matter.
