WotLK Profs. the Polar Opposite of TBC?Follow

Maybe this has been covered, but am I the only one that noticed that the WotLK professions seem to be so completely different from TBC professions? In TBC, everything that was worth crafting was BoP (which sucked IMO), now it seems like outside of the few "for the crafter only" recipes (ie fur lining for LWs), everything is BoE.

Is this just because they are the "starter" recipes? I certainly don't remember being able to buy BoE epic patterns from the trainers in Outlands.

IMO, this is a nice change. It makes crafting a little more fun, and more useful.

Opinions? Anyone pissed that they dropped one prof in Outlands to power level another, only to find out that it may not have been worth it?

All the recipes have not yet been released.

I thought you were going to point out how BS is now very popular and helpful (I feel that as a Tank I need it to gear up for tanking) while my mage (Tailor) really doesn't need to tailor.

I do really like how the professions, at least the ones I've paid attention to, seem to do a better job of covering all of the bases.

I can blacksmith to fill any holes in my plate gear, whether I be DPS, prot, or pally. Same goes for LW and the needs of hunters, shaman, rogues, and various druid specs.

They just seem to have done a much better job of making the professions useful.

Quite a few of the professions were useful in TBC, but some were clearly far more useful than others. I feel like they did a much better job in WotLK of balancing the professions so that they all had usefulness and far more items that were available to everyone.

The possible exception to this is still Engineering, where the majority of items are engineer only. Engineering does have a few more items that are useful to everyone, but it still lags the other professions as far as saleable items that anyone can use.

I look at them being polar opposites in that how Tailoring was pretty much required in TBC for dps casters as the gear was just that good and now it is completely worthless especially when the items are BoE. I will probably drop it for jewelcrafting.

Bearing in mind how hard tailoring is to level up and the fact there will probably be BoP items introduced in later content patches it's probably best not to drop tailoring.

I also love how you can do daily's for JC recipes.
I have been tempted to drop mining/skinning on my hunter for tailoring/engineering for the bike and carpet. These are great additions to professions that are unique, making more people craft hopefully, and cut down on all the gatherers.

LW definately was better this time around then in the last xpac - at 80 I'm actually still wearing merchant purchased/trained recipes.

Tailoring seems to be not quite as hot - my lock is 74 and the stuff I can make isn't really screaming to me yet vs what's dropping/quest rewards.

I agree with Rusttle's comments wholeheartedly. Especially discouraging
is Tailoring; realitively crappy drops of cloth and only three level 78
craftables that I am aware of.

In addition to the BoP vs BoE situation I also don't see much as yet
in the realm of faction recipes except for JC's and that is different.
Of course there isn't much crafted raid gear yet so that may yet be
subject to change.
