Prices for raw mats - up or down?Follow

As a LW the only two items that I've really tracked in earnest are the frozen orbs and the arctic fur.

The frozen orbs have pretty much fallen through the floor on my server - I've seen them at around 20g last time I bothered looking - gratz to everyone who was able to dump them for 1k a month ago.

Sadly, the arctic fur has remained pretty stable - price has decreased slightly from around 100g to 80-90 and as low as 60 if people are having price wars but usually it hangs around the 80ish range (give or take 10g).

Everything has gone down since expansion release. It's tough to raise the price on something that's already opportunistically priced. If anything, it's Outland materials that have gone up. Fel iron ore is going for 40-60g/stack on my realm. I didn't even bother to check adamantite this weekend. Supply of gathered WotLK materials has increased dramatically with more people 77+ able to fly around wherever they want and gather to their heart's content.

Yup, same thing on my server. When the expansion came out, arcane dust was selling for a whopping 6-9G per stack. Since I was in the 60s with my pally at the time, I bought out stack upon stack of it to level my enchanting. After doing so and being left with 25ish stacks, the price was up to 12-15G and now sits at around 20G per stack.

But yeah, as expected the price of WOTLK mats have fallen lower and lower over the last few weeks. Cloth = 20G a stack instead of 40G. Infinite dust is 100G instead of 200G. The price of spices is still the same as always on my server, thanks to a steadied supply from the need to do a daily for them.

I'm still trying to cash in as much as I can, as I suspect prices falling even lower over the next month or so. Already bought one epic flyer, looking to get the gold for #2 and #3 while its still easy.

I agree that more and more people are getting to 77+ on all servers at this point. The supply of WotLK mats keeps going up, while the number of people needing the mats is levelling off or even starting to go down.

An interesting way to make some extra money and have fun is to roll a new alt and take 2 gathering professions (preferably mining and herbalism provided you have an addon or macro to make it easier to track both). In the next patch, any player that has at least 1 level 55 somewhere will be able to roll a DK on ANY SERVER. Most DKs are not going to go Leatherworker, so skinning low level mobs still won't be a great source of profit for a new alt. However, a lot of DKs will be going BS, Eng, or Inscription (who knows, a few might even go Alchemy) so I believe that the demand for low-level ores/herbs is going to explode once again after the next patch.

Even without the new patch, I have an alt that is selling stacks of 10 silver ore for 100g each stack.

I am NOT saying that a low-level alt is going to make money faster than your main, but I am saying that in the process of having some fun playing on an alt you CAN find it to be very profitable as well :)

Its really easy to make money with vanilla WoW mats, I started levelling mining and skinning on my death knight, then realized I wanted to do jewelcrafting/mining. I started gathering as many minerals as I could on my way to level 300, silver has been selling like gold... people on my server are buying silver ore for 8-10 gold each. While levelling jewelcrafting I just bought all my silver as silver bars (which were 25G a stack vs up to 200G a stack that the ore was worth). I think the higher level mats will go down for a couple months then level out as people max out their professions/finish levelling and the need levels off.
