Hey all, I did mining on my Pally as I was leveling him. Only issue was I outleved his mining skill. Now i'm in northrend and will be starting to make some lvl 80 crafted stuff and I want to be able to make my own bars to save money. Any suggestions as to old world zones that would have the highest concentration of mining nodes to get my skll the last 35 points needed for mining in TBC conent?

Blasted Lands is a very good zone for mining in that range. Mostly Small Thorium nodes but also a reasonable number of Mithril and the occasional Truesilver. I learned about it during the Scourge event. I spent a lot of time there chasing down rare spawns for crappy epics and was surprised at the number of nodes I found. I just went there with my warrior a couple of days ago to bring him up to 300 (from 290). It wasn't fast...that last stretch of mining never is. But it was low risk and fairly relaxing at level 60.

Winterspring/Silithius/EPL are also decent places for that stretch, but they're quite large and you can spend an awful lot of time travelling around without finding anything. I spent some time in Silithius on my pally a couple of days ago mining Thorium...it's a decent spot for rich nodes if you're beyond the level where the bugs in the hives can hold you up. I just did a circuit around the three main hive craters...there's typically two underground entrances/crater and you can count on 1-2 rich thorium nodes/underground section. The main difficulty is that Silithius is so damned far out of the way.

Get your butt to Silithus. You'll end up with a ton of thorium to sell, and being a pally is great for the extra mount speed.

Get gatherer add-on.

Maybe buy some thorium and smelt for a bit first.

That's all. No big secret to it.

Yeah I went online and got the Mining addon. So it only tracks where you found the nodes at right? It doesnt actually tell you where they will be at?

I found that silithis didn't have very many that I could find, all the ones I found were Rich Thorium which I wasnt high enough to mine yet. Un'Goro Crater was a decent spot, easy circle run and I found about 10 nodes in one rotation which isnt too bad. Thorium is farely expensive on my server, I already thought about just smelting it.

But thanks for the heads up on that addon.
#5REDACTED, Posted: Jan 12 2009 at 11:20 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The amount of time you spend looking for nodes to level, you can just do dailies, buy ore and smelt it to level. I believe I was able to get to 295 that way. I then got the +5 mining enchant and leveled I outlands with my flyer mount + smelted to skip levels.

Silithus is the best place generally, you could hang around in Ungoro until you hit 275 mining (needed for rich thorium) as there are lots of small thorium veins there. If you search the ore you are looking for on wowhead it will give you a map of the most common spawn locations for that ore. Also buying ore is generally not worth it because so many people buy ore from ah to level their skill quickly and fail to notice that the ore usually goes for twice what the bars do (at least on my server). If you haven't gotten your "the Explorer" title yet run around, mine discover some new areas, have fun with the scenery.

get the gatherer wowhead database (should be able to google that I would think) and have it with your gatherer and load it from the gatherer menu in game. Will pop a ton of nodes up for you.

I personally hate Silithus.

I just spent several days leveling all my trades and for 265-300 my favorite place is definitely Winterspring.
start with the lake and go in a circle down to the frost giants and back up to the forstsabers. rinse and repeat.
I usually catch about 20-25 thorium in a round with a few scattered mithril and gold ores.

Plus Winterspring is a much nicer area than the crap that is Silithus.

Wow keepin the thread alive! I HATED silithus as well. I like Ungoro Crater though, and I finished the last coupe points off at The doorway into outland. I got within 5 and just used my enchanter to put a +mining on my gloves to get me to the trainer in outland lol.

Actually currently now I'm Just about to ding level 80, miner is at 450 and I've got 7 pieces of titansteel made. I'll be having the 3 tank titansteel items made. Wow...I posted on Jan 1st. Seems like much longer then that hah. Anywa yeah thanks for all the advice, I absolutly love the gatherer addon with the database. Best advice ever!!
