Just started the slow grind to 80 and have hit a few easy achievements along the way, but couldn't figure out what the points were used for, can someone point me in the right direction to read up on them?

There's not really much to read, as they currently have no use apart from comparing them with others.
Wiki:
Quote:
An achievement point is a unit that accumulates based on different types achievements. However, there are currently no plans to allow spending them on anything.

Some achievements have very nice rewards however (mounts, tabards, titles etc.)apart from the (pointless) achievement points.

Just like on the Xbox 360, the points are just for bragging rights.

wow what a complete waste. I agree that there are some nice rewards when you finish off a set of achievements, but if you can't use the points for anythng then why give them out? Good ol' Bliz thinking ahead I guess. Thanks for the info

Because it makes people feel cool when they see that they have more achievements than someone else. It's about bragging rights, simple as that.

You're only jealous cos we've got more achievements than you!

Probably because there are only a certain number of points you can get. Say you could buy stuff with them, if you bought something and then saw something better, you'd be SOL eventually. Everything u can spend in wow is infinite, so if you make a mistake you can correct it eventually.
