Love finding a deal on the AHFollow

So I wander into the AH to post a few items and decide I have a bit of time, so I fire up Bottomscanner to see if I can earn a few gold. Some ho-hum items come up, and I decline until 10 x Greater Planar Essence comes up. For 88s. I look at it. I look at it again. I buy it! One Greater Planar Essence usually sells for about 8g on my server, so all I'm thinking is "cha-ching!".

Bottomscanner of course keeps running. A few more ho-hum items come up, and then...wait for it...10 x Greater Planar Essence comes up again. For 88s. With no hesitation, I buy!

To the poor person who I assume accidentally posted their auction value in the silver column instead of the gold column (twice), I thank you kindly. My 41 rogue can go shopping now!

Nice story. I've had similar unexpected deals, but nothing this lucrative. Grats.

I nearly crit my britches.

Could also have been running without Auctioneer. Default prices are really crappy but if you did not know the prices, they hit create auction, and say, oh free gold, not knowing they could of had many free golds.

Hmmm. I usually find deals like this on the neutral AH, where a player is transferring (through a third party) an item from a toon of one faction to another toon of the other faction. Happens about once a week for me.

Same for me actually, the only places I've seen things like this so far is the Neutral AH. I love when people whisper you asking for their stuff back. I'm not generally a nasty person, I almost always return the items I grab on the Neutral AH (sometimes I don't even try to get payment for said item).

On the other hand, I love laughing at people who whisper me or send me letters threating to report me. What are they going to tell the GM?

"Dear GM,

Today I broke the rules and tried to transfer between the Horde and Alliance side. Some meanie actually purchased items that I put on the Auction House and wouldn't give them back when I called them a #*%&tard. Please help."

Who doesn't? My favorite thing to look for is the plans for Mithril Spurs which I sell easy for 40g and I'm lucky enough to always find for like 10-20g, I buy and re-sell. Also lucky enough that it happens often enough to mention here.

I haven't been messing with the AH long enough to know what a good deal is most of the time, but I had a fun thing happen earlier. A friend of mine knows I mine, but he doesn't know that I haven't in a while, and am still lvl 124 (UG!), and he sent me a tell, asking if I had a gold bar lying around. I was at the AH at the time, and he sends another tell saying he really doesn't wanna spend 5g on a bar of gold. So I did a search for bars of gold, and there were a bunch sitting there for 5g ea, and a stack of 4 for 5g. :) I grabbed it and sold them all to him for what I paid for them. He was happy, and I was happy, cuz he's helped me a ton on his main.

I think my best deal thus far was a Fel Lotus for about 5g. I was a happy panda. n_n

Lucky you. I look for deals like this a lot in the AH. I usually don't find them but every once in a while you can get pretty lucky and make a pretty good profit.

I remember finding my first Shadow Pearl in a jaggal clam that dropped in Steamvault. There were none on the AH to benchmark against, but I figure, what the heck, it's just an uncommon gem, like a Shadow Draenite, I don't need to look up AH data on alla, I'll just put it up for 12g and see if anyone is desperate enough to pay that.

The pearl sold in minutes, and dread washed instantly over me. I really didn't want to learn how much I "lost" on that sale.

On the bright side, it's my only colossal AH screwup to date. With that lesson seared into my mind, I prevented myself from doing something impulsive with a Badge of Tenacity a few weeks later.

I play on a relatively new server and find crazy deals all the time. I just a shadow pearl for 1G, recipes some people put up really cheap and I just immediately post them back for a huge profit. It's certainly the easiest way to make gold for me. I got something yesterday for I think 10G and immediately sold it for 38G. I have no idea what it was but it sold quick.

Yesterday I bought this a Blazing Emblem for 10G and immediately sold it for 62G.

If you understand the twink market, then you can make a lot of gold off of greens and blues that low level players mistakenly put at a normal low level price. I love it.

It must have been a case of "I have too much gold" or maybe not enough time to do the research or use auctioneer. THere's a blue shield called the redbeard crest. It was on the ah for 2g but my auctioneer says on Elune it's worth 48. Bought in a heartbeat, tried 50g since that's the alla average, but it didn't sell. Finally sold on the 3rd try for 42g....40g profit wasn't bad.

The other day, I also picked up a stack of thick clefthoof posted for 17g. 17g?!?! REALLY?!?! I bought, marked up to the 5% under price of 76G even though I rarely use that price with thick clefthoof.

On elune right now, my favorite thing to do is just mine some thorium. On a good day it's over 40g per stack for ore.

I found at the time a new set of Ragesteel Shoulders a day or 2 after they released them for 18g, sent them to an alt and they sold in about 2 hours for 385g. Was perfect timing because I was farming for gold for my epic mount training at that time.

I can't count the number of times that I've gone to the AH to post a stack of ore for the typical price and found that there are no items currently for sale. So I put my stacks on for 4-5x the typical price and they almost always sell. Nothing like getting 50G when you were expecting 10G.

Lesser magic essence and strange dust-great sellers, I bid on any green (sometimes a blue) item that is less than 15s, or buyout if it's less than 15s. The items I win get DE and I can sell a stack of 20 Strange dust for 20G and a stack of 10 Lesser Magic Essence for 10G. Also, 10 Greater Magic Essence usually sells for about 10G, and that breaks down into 30 Lesser Magic Essences, thus 30G. Occasionally others undercut me and slow down my sales but I have sold many a stack even at the higher price because people don't want to look through pages and pages of materials. When I'm the only one with those items up they sell like hotcakes. My main is only Lvl 34 and my AH toon is Lvl 21. And I have almost 1000G.

I spotted the recipie for a Destruction Potion on the AH for 10g yesterday. "That's GOT to be underpriced!" I thought, and snapped it up. I put it up at a 299g/377g buyout to see if any fish would nibble.

Sure enough, I got a buyout in less than an hour. On a hunch, I searched for Destruction Potion on the AH and saw that the recipie had been relisted at 800g/1000g. Okay, fair play to them, plenty of profit for all.

Minutes later I got a whisper from a guildie, asking if I would lend him 500g so he could buy a BoE world drop alchemy recipie that he'd been looking for forever.

LOL this thread actually inspired me to spend some time working the AH. I'd been putting it off, as <whine> I can think of better things to spend my gaming time on than having my bank mule scan the auctions. So what do I find on the next scan after reading this? The Ace of Elementals, min bid about 2g. According to Auctioneer it's worth about 30g on my server. LOL and I won the bid too.

Before TBC, the Thorium Shield Spike (plan) was the best spike a BS could make. I would check AH everyday and it was never there, but the Mithril one usually was and always sold for around 40g.

Low and behold one day there's a Thorium Spike listed for 62s. Yes...silver! Just like the OP, I rubbed my eyes to be sure I hadn't gone looney.

All I can figure is some guy got the plan, asked his buddies what it should go for and one of them said "probably around 62", so the guy figured silver, not gold.

As fate would have it, I've had the plans drop twice for me since. One sold for 122g, the other for 160g.

But it's not all good. My plan to corner the market in copper ore/bars by buying all that was available and jacking up the price taught me the definition of Epic Fail.

I found Breath of Wind for 12 silver yesterday. They go for 9G on my server. It's not a lot of cash but it's quite a return on my investment.

Hahaha, back in the day, I got a stack of Black Lotus for only 88s. I think the seller thought that they were Purple Lotus :p

Hey there long time reader first time poster, yesterday I found a recipie for flask of supreme power on the ah for 5g, which I grabbed and sold for 550g, but the wierd part is a guildie of mine found the recipie for elixir of greater mage blood for 4g (which usually sells for 600+) earlier that day.

Don't happen to play on Bonechewer? A guildie of mine tried that twice. And Epic Phaild. Twice. Rather humorous to watch someone waste 600+ G like that.
