Well you cannot expect to go out and fish the big fish, or expect to catch them all when you have such a low skill.

Step one, fish from a major city, capitols to be spific.

When you get up to about 15-20 buy some Shiny Bauble's and keep going, you can level fishing from 1-300 all in the lakes inside the capiols. realisticly at about 95 or so you would be best to fish some usefull fish and that means leaving the city.

Step Two, Ratchet for Firefin and oily blackmouth, the barrens for Deviate fish.

Step Three, after about 2 hrs or so you will be ready to go get your book to unlock 150 fishing.

"Your fish got away!" means you are on the cusp of mastering the fishing zone you are in. You may lose a few but you'll still catch a few. But, try to fish in Azshara when your fishing skill is still, say, 50, and you'll get "Skill not high enough." i.e. "try again later!"

Yes. That's precisely my point.

As Capitolg mentioned, you should start fishing in a capitol city or in your starting zone.

Every zone has its own level requirements (generally zone level*5, but could be higher) for fishing. If you get "Skill not high enough" in one area of the zone (i.e. a river), you will also get the same message in another area (i.e. the seashore) of the same zone. What you will need to do is go to a lower level zone to increase your fishing skill. The newbie zones all have someplace where you can raise your fishing skill.

i am a big fisher i fish all the time and i thought i had a high enough lvl i was at 192. never had a problem until i went to hinterlands tried to fish there and got the message "your skill isn't high enough" turns out you have to be at a 200 to fish hinterland waters lol. i ended up spending a few silver to buy some fishing addon's to get my skill the extra couple points to be the 200. took me about 10 mins but was able to get to 200 and fish.. i still had major your fish got away if i didn't use a babble.

but each area has a certain # your lvl has to be at to fish the waters. i completely recomend you fish your starting area till your atleast lvl 40 in fishing then you can move to the major city. but i fished my starting area till i was lvl 90. didn't take long and a tip cook what ever you catch!!! you will lvl your cooking and fishing at same time. i have 250 fishing 265 cooking. the snapjaw things will take you to just under 80 in cooking very worth it.
