Just saw in here that you can only progess in trade skills as you gain level? Does this mean you have to level to reach next phases/levels of a trade skill or can you make a lowbie toon as just a crafter bot so to speak?

From what I am reading it looks like you can only craft higher level stuff if your character is a higher level which is silly IMHO.

Just got the game the other day so I know nothing really atm, sorry for nub question.

what you said is pretty much correct. You can learn a profession at 5, and proceed to level it up. The basics for this is that the mats you will be getting for the level of profession you are at will be about equal to where you are raiding/questing. This is of course excluding AH, where you can easily level a (non-gathering) profession quickly. But there are requirements to hit the 4 different levels (apprentice, journeyman, expert, master) which I believe are 5, 10, 20, 35 (correct me if I am wrong)

Neither are wrong and it isnt stupid. If everyone could make level one's of all the crafting then you would never get any money using them. Imagine everyone easily getting 300 leatherworking, tailoring, enchanting, etc.
