Blacksmithing...What sells?Follow

#1 Nov 06 2006 at 7:30 PM Rating: Decent
Hey all....I recently created a new char on a new server....To make it worse, i made a warrior..meaning i gotta keep up with new gear. To make it short and sweet, my proffessions are mining/blacksmithing. I am finding it extremely difficult to make money off of blacksmithing, and yet, i want to keep it leveled where i Might be able to use some of my own gear created. Thus, my question to blacksmiths...What items do you guys usually sell that can make you some money? the only things i have ever been able to sell (No more than 20S a piece) are rough bronze leggings, runed copper leggings, and copper battle axe. The rest either does NOT sell..Ever.. Or the mats are wayyyyyyy to much to even bother trying to sell at a profit.

Any advice?

There are a few things that will sell occasionally - pearl-handled daggers do okay at the AH, and there are some items that are needed for the Darkmoon Fair quest that sell during that time period, and you can sometimes get people willing to buy shield spikes if you use the tradechat channel. Most of the green items if you price them low enough will be bought by an enchanter to disenchant, but as you might already know, the deposit for weapons and armor tends to be really high and that's pretty much all you make. If you've got a friend that's an enchanter, make stuff that he can disenchant, sell those mats and split the profits, skilling up your blacksmithing as well as making a little cash. Try to keep one or two of whatever the highest level rod you make is on the auction house - silver, gold, truesilver or arcanite - there is usually an enchanter that needs one. And there are a couple of other items like the Moonsteel broadsword that are used on quests, and iron buckles that tailors and leatherworkers need for belts that will occasionally sell on the AH - usually easier just to post those in the tradechannel and work for tips though.

To really make money, sell the mats you get mining. Until you get up to making mithril spurs, thorium shield spikes, or one of the rarer dropped or rep recipes, blacksmithing like most other crafts is pretty much a money sink.

My first toon was a warrior and I didn't bother with BSing till 60, so you don
't need it to lvl. Once you get BSing high enough you will have options of a Weaponsmith (Axe, Sword, Mace) or Armorsmith. Each can make you money, but weaponsmith usually does the best. Armorsmithing can sell gear for up to a 1000G but that's spending about 400-500G in mats, and mats could be cheaper and gear could sell less just depending no your server.

If you want to make money, IMO Alchemy(Sp?) is the way to go. My friend makes 30-50G nightly from selling potions and doesn't undercut by much. There's plenty of guides that can teach you to save gold.

I've supplied Ornate Mithril and Heavy Mithril to the AH out of hopes of earning back some of my expenses for the mats. I set the BO price to 2.25 gold for the Ornate Breastplates, 2 gold for the heavy Breastplates, and other decent prices for other things. I logged on an hour later, and I had 15 gold sitting in my bank, not including my outbidded money. I have since been makig stuff like that for two days now and have a calculated 25 gold return, including the materials expense.

The biggest sellers I've had are Mithril Spurs, and my Phantom Blades, seeing as I spec in Weapons. With a macro'ed ad, I sell stuff, random stuff, namely, such as reagents and odd weapons all the time. Great tree to branch off to, in my opinion.
