Vote for your most useless item possibly madeFollow

#1 Oct 31 2006 at 7:33 AM Rating: Decent
there are a few items that serve no clear purpose in the game or have been heavily nerfed.
1. Heavy Leather ball. leatherworking. enough said.

2. Gnomish battle chicken. Does 1dps for 1 and a half minutes. can use it 1 time ever haf an hour. usable after level 20. (because of engineering skill cap.) Since the last patch at 1.20. I sent it against a level 5 scorpid which had a little more than 60% life. The chicken expired before the scorpid did.

3. Goblin jumper cables. worked a grand total of 2 times out of 18.
4. Cables Xl. worked a grand total of 3 times out of 8.

5. Gemmed belt leatherworking. it works every 1/2 an hour to add someone 200+ hp... vs a similar belt of the same level green that starts you off with + 100 hp and +5 dps.

Hmmm, my jumper cables work often and save my raids.

But the most useless item in the game is the Practice Lock. It has not value whatsoever.

I don't know how, but I sold about 10 of those on the AH, got about 1g total. Not much, but for just using it to get Engineering levels...I'm not complaining.

Anyway, My vote goes to the heavy leather ball. Or if you like the DM version...Happy Fun Rock.

Heavy leather ball: 1
Battle chicken: 0
Jumper Cables: 0
Jumper Cables XL: 0
Gemmed belt: 0

Feel free to add anything to the list so far!

ok i'll put the gnomish battle chicken since it takes 1-2g for the mats for a considered useless item. vs 4 pieces of medium leather and string.

list as it stand.

Heavy leather ball: 1
Battle chicken: 1
Jumper Cables: 0
Jumper Cables XL: 0
Gemmed belt: 0

Battle chicken can provide an attack speed buff for 4 minutes for all party members. It can also be used to buy some time by keeping a mob off you for a while, giving you a chance to loot quest items without progress bar interupts (this used to also works on chests, but that was nerfed a few patches back), get some distance to the mob or deal with other mobs in a multi-pull. While it's damage is not high each attack also interupts casting bars which makes it easier to defeat spellcasters in both PvP and PvE.

It's not useless but rather a situational trinket, something you swap in, use and replace again immediately (either after the fight or mid-fight if you can drop out of combat with Vanish/Feign).

Arcanite skeleton keys. I don't think I've ever seen anything in a chest worth wasting a bar of arcanite to get!

Arcanite skeleton keys actually steals my vote from the chickens. (and I still think chickens are pretty useless.) no mage worth his salt will stand still and let your chicken run up to him to interrupt casting. that and if you've had the chicken out and chasing the guy... it's also probabally still stuck as an icicle while the mage had blinked away and you've sprinted/vanished and run up to him. for the dam second round of wack a mage

ps I'm not sure if arcanite keys would work in the 300+ locks like the viewing room in scholomance. just though you might want to consider other uses for the key than lowly chests.

The most useless IMHO: Seaforium Charges (engineering).

What on earth are they used for? Every door I've tried can resist.

Heavy leather ball: 1
Battle chicken: 1
Jumper Cables: 0
Jumper Cables XL: 0
Gemmed belt: 0
Seaforium Charges: 1

Oh..this looks like fun!

Heavy leather ball: 1
Battle chicken: 1 0
Jumper Cables: 0
Jumper Cables XL: 0
Gemmed belt: 0
Arcanite Skeleton Key: 1
Practice Lock: 1
Seaforium Charges: 1

I will vote for the practice lock. I also moved Addermine's point based on his later post. The chicken has it's purposes and I have seen 100+ gold items come from chests.

IMHO practice locks could be made useful (for more than raising your engineering skill) by allowing them to be unlocked multiple times so that a rogue could gain 10~15 skill points. Several levels of locks could then be added for even more utility.

Edited to update list for Seaforium Charges.

The original use of small seaforium charge is to blast the door in Deadmines
(commonly referred to as vc.) I've yet to see someone actually make one just for that instance but the mats for the seaforium charge drops anyway for anyone who wants to try running the instance. For the large seforium charge. try telling an engineer he can't do his DM tribute run because you forgot your key and the rog forgot to level lockpicks. Oh no key? Click, BOOM.

My vote goes to countless armor kits...not because i don't use them just because i've probally made 300+ that i didn't use just to boost my LW.

lol - I guess I could expand on this a little more. There aren't any doors that I know of in the game that don't have either a fairly easy (if maybe somewhat lengthy) quest for a key or a relatively simple procedure for killing mobs to get through. And I suspect, although I've never been willing to cough up the arcanite to find out, that the one door I've found that might be worth using up a key to open, UBRS, the key wouldn't work on anyway. The time I spent collecting all the mats for the love potion quest to open the back door of the bar in BRD, the second longest key quest in the game, wouldn't have farmed enough mats for one key.

If anyone knows of any locks; chests, doors, chastity belts, or any other sort; that would even have a reasonable chance of concealing something worth using up an arcanite key to find, please let me know!

Oh man, I wish I could change mine. They're even listed under engineering as "Junk".
