Fishing The Most Annoying Profession To Level?Follow

#1 Oct 24 2006 at 12:54 AM Rating: Decent
It seems to me fishing just consists of pure boredom, I've been trying to get all my skills to 300 before BC hits, but I don't think I will ever be able to do fishing. The problem is the fact that even if you go to a high skill zone it still levels at the same rate as a low skill zone, or at least that's what I've heard, any confirmation on this?

Also, you have to seriously concentrate on fishing, so you can't alt-tab out and do things whilst you do it - unless you can keep sound from WoW up whilst you search the net?

Any tips, other than be patient? ;p

Try a couple of addons- Fishing Buddy and Fishping.

Also maybe do fishing when you're waiting for a group, or you can chat freely with your guild. Fishing can be seen as boring- I personally enjoy it, as it is relaxing.

From what I've heard blacksmithing is more annoying to level just because of the sheer amount of bars it takes to make something for skillup. Leveling fishing isn't a problem for me, I go and choose profitable things to fish for money, it just so happens my skill is going up at the same time.

Mining is the profession that bakes my noodle. You mine- yay. You get one point skillup, regardless of how often you successfully tap a vein. One hit- one point. Several hits- one point. I realise that smelting gets skillups, but there are points where smelting nets few (and sometimes no) skillups, and the only way you can improve is finding vein after vein and spanking away. I found that immensely tedious.

I always fish when waiting for a boat, and then off the side of the boat until it leaves. I agree with Fishing Buddy and FishPing - both are very useful. There is also TackleBox, as well.

Yes, you're capped at 150. For the next step up, you have to buy a book in Booty Bay (for 1G) that will allow you to get to 225, but you can't read the book until you reach level 20. At level 35, you'll get the fishing quest, which will allow you to reach 300.

Not only is it boring but it is very frustrating, especially when you see the message "fish got away". But once you max it at 300, you can get pretty decent returns with fishing.

Until now I still get that message in Winterspring and Azshara.

Best item to use fishing on at 300 is the essence of water pools north of orgammer but for that you need 380 to even get a chance to pick it up. ie keep a lure handy.

Annoying to level? Are you kidding me? You only do it for gold? grrr

Fishing is the greatest proff in the game. Sure its profitable, but the fun of fishing never ends. I mean once you get all the fishing gear its so much fun to get all decked out and go fishing.

Go fishing from node to node killing few aggrod mobs along the way. Maybe kill an alliance or two (unless your alliance then you be ganking ME!!), fish in a single spot as you wait for the nodes to respawn. Ah enjoying the basking sunlight glimmering over the water. No stess, no goals, just pure innocent fun.

pfft it hurts that so many fisherman only rush out to the nodes pain stakenly waiting for the fish to bite hoping it does so early on in the cast. Avoiding mobs and players so as to not ruin the G per hour rate. Despising the entire time that blizz wont allow you to bot your fishing. Never once looking at the most beautiful scenery that can be found in game. Oh no you couldnt enjoy the greatest proffession in the game, no you do it for your lust of greed.

I mean surely you were awed the first time you seen a major raid boss, or entered the greatly detailed BGs, you were awed and fell in love with the game. Only to despise your new overlord when it ask you to enjoy and bask in the greatness it has created for you stress free on the great rivers and gulfs of the land.

I despise you all for your despise of the greatest proff in the game. :(

Only two? Pfft… *grins*

To be honest I think I kind of burned myself out on fishing. I’ve not fished in a long time. Well, not for very long at a time anyway. I’ve gotten kind of burned out on the game in general of late. Maybe I’ll focus on fishing again and see what I can do. I’d love to get the trinket that lets us turn ourselves into a fish. I’d most likely choose that before the fishing pole. But I do need to get more fishing gear. My rogue has one piece and none of my other characters have any. And I expect there will be more fishing goodies in the new lands that will require an even higher fishing skill.

The ironic thing is that my fishing is 150 right now, I am not planning on raising it for now. They only reason why it had been leveled is before the patch BG cross-realm upgrade. TO burn down the time, I just took out the fishing rod and started fishing.

When is the fishing contest in Booty Bay? I have not been able to get an answer from anyone in the game.

The fishing competition is held every Sunday- I think it starts 2pm server time. You can usually find a barker for the competition on Sunday mornings outside Ironforge auction house.

Fishing isn't that bad. If you fish at night for Nightfin (usually fish up 2-3 stacks at a time), then your skill goes up and since no one ever sells Nightfin or Nightfin soup, you make an easy profit with it as well.
