Most fun trade skill?Follow

What would you say the most fun trade skill is? So far my favorite that I have tried is engineering, because of all the cool things you can make.

If it wasn't for the money, I'd say that all tradeskills except first aid are really time-wasters. None are really "fun".

I think Alchemy and Cooking are fun tradeskills. I have yet to try Engineering, though. I really ought to.

Isn’t playing WoW in the first place a time-waster? You could be cleaning the house. You could be furthering your education. You could be working to earn more real money. But instead you’re wasting your time by playing a video game. Three cheers for wasting time! *smiles*

That having been said, any good MMORPG will offer a lot of different things to do because we each have our own idea of what is and is not fun. If Blizzard tailored the game to my liking they’d remove all PvP. Now there’s a feature of WoW that is no fun at all, at least not for me. I’ve always enjoyed crafting, be it in UO, EQ or any other MMORPG I’ve played. There’s just something fun about being able to make things.

I’d have to say that engineering is the profession with the highest fun factor. It’s hard not to enjoy a profession that lets me make non-combat pets and shrink rays. But I also enjoy having gathering professions. One of my hunters had skinning and leatherworking. I dropped his skinning, as I had other characters that could skin, and had him take up engineering. While I enjoyed engineering I truly missed having a gathering profession on him. I found I didn’t enjoy playing him nearly as much as I did when he could skin.

In EQ cooking was one of my favorite trade skills. Cooking in WoW isn’t nearly as fun. I still like it, but in EQ we could make all kinds of strange and wondrous foods. I miss that in WoW.

I don't know about EQ, but I must admit, Sanvyn brought up a valid point in another thread about the difference in food in WoW versus the difference in food in FFXI. In FFXI, most food has a purpose. In WoW, there are so many generic foods that simply increase your HP regeneration, and so few by comparison that boost stats in a unique way. I really miss things like meat mithkabobs bersus Dhalmel steaks, versus sushi! You could boost different stats with different foods, whereas most foods in WoW boost x stamina & x intellect for 10-15 minutes. There are excpetions (Deviate Delight, Dragonbreath Chili, Grilled Squid, Hot Summer Bass and Smoked Desert Dumplings come to mind), but again, the variety is limited. Add to that the fact that the buffs only last 10 to 15 minutes (versus a variety of 5 minutes for cookies, and half an hour to 1 1/2 hours for other foods in FFXI), and you get less people willing to spend time farming for food for short-term stat boost that could be spent making more money, which could potentially buy potions that boost the stats better, and for longer. Smiley: frown

I think the most fun profession is the one you have the most fun doing- which means it's entirely subjective. I find it fun to find new nodes for ore and herbs, and while I use Gatherer, I enjoy finding a spot that hasn't been marked before. I guess I'm weird like that. Smiley: rolleyes

Hey at least it wasn't Click, CLick, CRAP synth failed and I lost all my mats and the last month's worth of farming eyes just so some crappy alchemist could lose me tons of money (FFXI reference).

That having said, I personally think engineering is a lot of fun. I get to make all sorts of goofy stuff, and can also make bombs to blow stuff up.

How can exploding sheep not be fun?

I agree to an extent. But the break made it a risky endeavor. FFXI may have been a timesink, but at least it never lacked in challenge. To be a successful crafter in WoW, you only need some gold. FFXI constantly made you change your methods (as a cook at least) to stay ahead of the pack.

Was actually rather fun in a depressing kind of way.

Ohh its engineering ofcourse.
Making fun things must be fun. All the others just a way to get you money, or some items(armor, or buffs).
