In EQ cooking was one of my favorite trade skills. Cooking in WoW isn’t nearly as fun. I still like it, but in EQ we could make all kinds of strange and wondrous foods. I miss that in WoW.
I don't know about EQ, but I must admit, Sanvyn brought up a valid point in another thread about the difference in food in WoW versus the difference in food in FFXI. In FFXI, most food has a purpose. In WoW, there are so many generic foods that simply increase your HP regeneration, and so few by comparison that boost stats in a unique way. I really miss things like meat mithkabobs bersus Dhalmel steaks, versus sushi! You could boost different stats with different foods, whereas most foods in WoW boost x stamina & x intellect for 10-15 minutes. There are excpetions (Deviate Delight, Dragonbreath Chili, Grilled Squid, Hot Summer Bass and Smoked Desert Dumplings come to mind), but again, the variety is limited. Add to that the fact that the buffs only last 10 to 15 minutes (versus a variety of 5 minutes for cookies, and half an hour to 1 1/2 hours for other foods in FFXI), and you get less people willing to spend time farming for food for short-term stat boost that could be spent making more money, which could potentially buy potions that boost the stats better, and for longer.
I think the most fun profession is the one you have the most fun doing- which means it's entirely subjective. I find it fun to find new nodes for ore and herbs, and while I use Gatherer, I enjoy finding a spot that hasn't been marked before. I guess I'm weird like that.
