How useful is engineering for a BM hunter?Follow

I was looking through engineering today, and a lot of it doesn't seem particularly useful for beastmaster hunters =/ Bombs and grenades cause stun and large damage, which will tend to pull mobs off your pet, and the bombs/grenades tend to be the big draw to engineering apparently. That and jumper cables, but...who cares if you wipe? You have to take some time to walk to your body, it's not THAT big a deal ^^; there's no real penalty to dying in WoW, lol.

Maybe it's just me *shrugs* if you can prove me wrong, please do >.> some of the engineer stuff is nice, but it mostly seems like a "toy" profession for beastmasters rather than a useful one. I may just wait for jewelcrafting :P I wanna make jewelry/gems ^_^

i think leatherwroking is best cause it can make u lots of $ and get u items that r good(at the end) i am a lvl 22 hunter on dreanor and i have 175 skinning and 175 leaherworking i find that leatherworking takes awhile tho but u can do it w/ some time and yes i think every1 wants jewlcrafting and yes i wish i had it 2 :D

You can make your own bullets.
You have a bunch of fun trinkets (including a FR one with +18 FR; very handy in MC/BWL).
You can make your own guns
You can make your own scopes for +damage to your guns
Bombs and dynamite do damage; grenades are for gouge-like stuns. Not only do these rock in PvP, but grenades give hunters something they lack inherently; an on-demand spell-stopper/stunner.
You were worried about pulling hate off your pet; unless I miss my guess, BM hunters have a very hard time doing this, right? I don't think an additional explosive every minute is going to make a HUGE change :-P

Engineering is one of the best professions for any class, but it caters more to hunters than anyone else ^_^; Still, to each his own, I guess.

As for LW/skinning... meh. LW is good, but like all crafting professions it falls kinda flat. Drops are always better, selling mats is (almost) always more profitable. You can make armor kits, which are less useful than enchants, and you can convert leather into more valuable leather. Woo-hoo. It is good for disenchanting, though!

I would definitely go with engineering. Jewelcrafting might be good, but you know it's going to be cut-throat when it first comes out and EVERYONE (and their mother :-P) is a jewelcrafter.

I am a BM hunter.

Goblin engineering is for making bombs.

I went gnome engineering. I love all the trinkets(shrink ray, cloaking device) and all of the extra pets (dragonling, battle chicken, etc.) and the parachute cloak (8 agility and a parachute/slowfall!) I'm still gathering recipes for the dragonlings so I can only make the first couple and since those aren't useful at my level, I haven't made one yet ;-)

Can't believe no one has pointed this out.

Feign Death + Jumper Cables = Wipe Insurance

No, its not 100% (maybe 50%), but it is well worth it.

Plus repair bots for bigger raids.

It increases your value to any party you are in. And that's one of the hunter's problem, what is your role in a party? DPS only? Many classes can do that - but the first time you save a wipe with FD+Jumper Cables, you will be loved...

Jumper cables XL have actually a pretty good success rate. The hunter in my static group has unwiped our group several times.

Wiping can be a big deal if you do it deep inside a high-level instance. You can't walk back to your body in an instance. That is where the jumper cables can be great if they work.

engineering is the most important profession for a hunter imho....the feign death+jumper cable combo is the best thing I've ever heard of too :P

Quick note: Jumper cables XL are made by goblin engineers but can be used by Gnomish engineers such as myself. As soon as you can use/make them do it!

Even the instances of the 50s like Mara and ST one good jump and they love you long time.

ill be another to support the FD+cables.

i've even been in groups before where people realized the hunter survived because of his FD, but he didn't have cables, so people grumble and wonder what was the use of using FD then, he might as well have just died with the rest of them...hehe

i have to also agree with bullets. when you can use thorium bullets/arrows, that's pretty much all you'll be wanting to use, especially for pvp. (until you get access to the better ammo). even in instances, it's good to use the best ammo you can if you want to feel like you contribute.

the trinkets are definitely where it's fun to be an engineer though, imo. lots of trinkets for various fun stuff.
