Cooking Vs. Wood pricesFollow

I've tried searching the forums for answers to these questions but can't seem to find any relevant information, so, please forgive the question if it has been asked before. I don't know if anyone else finds it a little expensive to start cooking at early levels (I've just started playing 2 days ago) because of the price of wood. I've been trying to get my cooking skills up but keep getting discouraged by the current prices of "Simple Wood" which is the reagent needed to make a fire in order to cook the food. Is there some other way of getting the simple wood other than buying it from the supply store or some very seldom random drops? Is there some place i can log for wood or something like that?

I have never bought wood to cook - I always use cooking fires in town, when I go to the bank, to cook up meats or whatever. Admitttedly it can be tough for undead - not many cooking fires in Undercity, P.

I had the same problem when I started, I though you had to make a fire to cook. Turns out that that I was wrong, I saw some guys cooking In IF (at the cooking trainer) they were cooking at the STOVE, thats when I realised that their are lots of places to cook, almsot every inn in the game has a place to cook(at least the ones built by humans dwarfs, and most of the orc buldings for sure, but it dosent stop their, sometiems mobs have cooking fires in their bases, I have cooked at the fire by the back door of Uldman. so in short... dont worry about making your own fire, just use one that is already their.

Arkanthos,

Do buy the wood. Its fun to have around if you're at a guild gathering, you could even tell ghost stories and such!

But otherwise wait until either you return to town to cook or if you happen to cross a stove you can cook there as well. All in all cooking is a wonderful way to increase your stats and such. Keep up the good work.

Actually guys you don't have to go far to cook. Forget the cook shops and such. Stand next to one of the Braziers and cook away. There are about 1000 Braziers al over. I use the one next to the mailbox in IF often.

Note: If you don't know what a brazier is this may help... It looks like a giant flower pot with fire in it.

I am about to hit 225 cooking & have not built a single fire. I cook at camps, in iron forge/stormwind city, and mostly in inns. You can cook in people's fire places, mob's camps, and braziers. Just try to cook on any fire you see and see if it works--the only thing that I have encountered that you cannot cook on is torches or lights. Good luck!

In Ogrimmar, you can cook at the fires at both the AH and bank if you don't want to go to the cooking supplier/trainer area.

In Undercity, there's a vendor or 2 at the mid-level when you are underground. It's in the inner circle around the bank.

Why go all the way back to a town? There are tons of cooking fires where humanoids are staked out at. You can cook at almost any place you see a "camp fire" in the game.

Only build a fire if you are in middle of woods and really need healing. If you are in town, you can easily use one of the fires.
The only way I believe you can obtain wood is by buying or AH. Your fires last 10 min.(while theirs last forever)
