Engineering SwitchFollow

#1 Apr 14 2005 at 4:54 PM Rating: Decent
I definetely should have done more research before picking an Engineering path. My guild leader wanted to pick Gnomish so I went down the Goblin path. Now reading about the items, I want to switch. Would it be possible, if I dropped Engineering and relearned it from scratch, to join the gnomish profession? Or does forever really mean forever. Just thought I'd ask, thanks all

I have picked Gnomish engineering and its cool.

I think if you dropped the engineering and then sttarted from scratch you would be OK to go down the gnomish route as effectivly you have cleared everything, but its a drastic move.

If your gonna do it, to make sure, learn another trade skill b4 you go back to it just in case.

Good luck if thats what your going to do

Dont listen to chuckles, you cannot go back, you verry clearly chose goblin, they made you agree to a Lifetime commitment in contract format, he told you to think about it!

Now that i have got that off my chest, goblin is way cool, heck if you want a bunch of REALY cool devices that regulary dont work , make a new char. But I ask, have you realy thought about why you want to swich ? You clearly stated that you have a freind that is a gnomish path, ever notice that most items in both gnomish and goblin dont require a speicfic path to USE them, they just require a level of the skill Engineering. Each school has a few items that are BoP so they cant be traded, but most of it can! and I prefer the dragon gun to the Death ray, unless you are a pally then it works as a ok pull tool(unless it just kills ya when you use it, saw it happen twice)when goblin stuff blows up(most good engineering goods do blow up)I have yet to die, and the battle chicken is kind of cool but the Remote contorle bomb Gobling folks make just rox.
What ever you do dont try and relern it... well go ahead but blame Mubflux, I warned you.

Ok, i am Gnome engineering, and my brother is goblin engineering, and there is not much different as you both are engineers the main thing you could do is share stuff between you, it is the best way, so i would not say start agian that would be a waste of time, as every thing i have seen that can be made is engineer use only, not goblin engineer or gnome engineer.

Good point to the poster above me.

And 2 posts above me, he is right. You won't be able to rechoose your path.

Good luck.

you dont need to switch at all, almost all devices are tradeable. death ray/chicken on gnomish isnt, and dragon gun/bomb dispenser isnt on goblin. but goblin looks to be the better choice, because almost all gnomish devices are tradeable except 2, if you went gnomish you'd have to buy endless big one bombs if you want to use them, as opposed to making them. death ray over dragon gun is preferance of person, i favor aoe over big blast, but in pvp it could easily kill a player. they revamped death ray, making it do more dmg and cut its cooldown in half, so it wouldnt be as bad as choice as before. my first char is gnomish and i wish i went goblin because i could have gotten all those devices traded to me anyway, where most of goblin is soulbound when made. you can go goblin and get shield belt, shrink ray, net gun, mind control cap, and gnomish jet boots, all traded to you. at least now with my second char that im going to go goblin with, i will be able to trade devices across the 2 when she gets up.

i think goblin is very much the better choice, even though gnomish gets more devices, ALL of them but 2 can be handed to you and equiped, only real reason to be gnomish is if you want death ray and/or chicken, 2 great devices but not worth the loss of whole line of other devices+bombs you could make. if you go gnomish, you cant get rocket helmet(pre stun mob for 30secs), fire shield helmet(protect you against 300-500fire dmg), mining helmet(equip for +5 mining skill), dragon gun(channel aoe, 100dmg per second for 10secs), reuseable bomb trinket(300-400dmg aoe, 30min reuse), cant reload mortar(costly to make, CHEAP to reload!), cant make big one bombs(300-400dmg, >5<sec stun) or sappers consumeables. isnt that a much longer list of can't gets? gnomish will ***** you over later when you catch on, like i did. if you go gnomish, you can only really get gnomish, if you go goblin, you can get BOTH! death ray is great but reuseable aoes are great too. bomb trinket does reuseable 300-400dmg aoe, goblin mortar does 400-500dmg aoe with 3sec stun. it has 6 charges but can be reloaded(by goblin only)for only 1mithril bar and 3 solid blasting powder! you cant get those as gnomish

I'm a lvl 42 priest and love using bombs to pull when I solo. It's nice having "free" dps to start the attack.

I'm level 42 and have 223 Engineering, yet haven't taken a specific path. I'm leaning towards Goblin because of the items it will allow me to make seem to be more in line with what I need and just about anything else I can swap out for with guildmates who are GM Gnomish Engineers.

Here's my two bits: I spent many hours looking over the differences between Goblin and Gnomish. I ended up going Goblin and have'nt really regretted it. I have been the victim of the Death Ray in some PvPing, but honestly my tauren warrior is so much more well rounded with Big Ones, Goblin Mortars and a Flame Thrower. A Tank with Tank Artillery! BAM!

oh yeah, i went goblin a well and i have never looked back. Being a rogue and all, i enjoy the AoEs that i gget through goblin engineering, it helps whenever i get swamped my lower lvl mobs. and, c'mon! you get to make things explode with goblin! whether they be the enemy or you is another matter :)
