So I'm a lvl 26 PRiest iwth mining and enchanting (mining helps pay for enchanting right now) and I'm wondering how to simply mine an area. I'm used to simply taking advatage of the nearby mines while grinding mobs.

So to really focus on mining what do I need to do? Do I need a special add on to help me with mining locations, should I wait till I have a mount, any areas or types of areas I should be focusing on?

There isnt any special add on needed to find good mineral veins, the best way i have found is to look for caves on a map and then look around those areas with my mineral tracking on because caves have the most amount of veins n them.
Allakazams maps are also good,i just type in the ore type i want and look at were the veins or deposits are. The maps are good beacuse although they are sometimes not exactly were the map says, the area always has some type of mineral nearby.

Waiting until you have a mount wont get you anywere, because by the time you get the money and level for a mount your mining level will be too low to be of any use, because rare ores like mithril go for a lot of money but need a high level to mine. What i am planning to do is mine gold and mithril sell it at an AH and use that method to buy a mount.
Just sticking to a cave area or area map on Allakazam will quickly help you find ore and get your skill up.

The add-on Gather helps tremedously. Basically it tracks and remembers the resources you've gathered, so whenever you're on your resource gathering run, you don't have to blindly remember where they are.

Mines are always a good place for minerals.

turn on your vein tracker in the minimap

go mine

even without an add-on to help you remember where veins are, you'll start remembering yourself.

eg, zones with lvl 1-10 are mostly copper
zones with 10-20 are mixed copper and tin
zones with 20-25 are tin and mixed

etc

now which zones are better? choose one which you dont have to do a lot of travelling. or if you do, you want to wind up near a smith shop to smelt your ore. eg i dont recommend duskwood..too many mtns that you can't get thru in a straight path. but redridge is not bad.

basically, feel free to explore a bit..don't need to go just to where people tell you to go.

also keep in mind that while some higher level ore brings in more money, if you're just after money for your mount at 40, staying on copper and tin (lvl 1-20) is not bad in itself.
