2 Gathering Professions ?Follow

#1 Apr 08 2005 at 6:26 AM Rating: Decent
Please help a newbie out :)

Is two gathering skills the wrong way to go (skinning & mining) only I was under the impression that I should just make money and buy what I wanted from the AH. However I have not been to Orgrimmer yet and therefore not seen prices in an AH, I have so far harvested 41 copper bars and 36 light leather skins.

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

I got the same skills, but Im using them for my guildies. But the prices vary from server to server. But usually you can sell them for 1s a piece. (light leather and copper bars)

I think double gatherers are genrally the quickest money makers, especially at higher levels. Most people wont do this with thier first/main character but rather thier alt and its done to feed thier main char/guild and/or make money.

Im doing this with my alt and its looking promising.

I am actually a miner and a flower collector at the moment. I've been through MANY professions, Mining, Engineering, Mining, Blacksmithing, Herbalism and Alchemy. And so far I have loved Mining, I went back to Mining and kept Herbalism, I haven't been able to really get that many high level veins or herbs, but I can get a poopload of lower level stuff at the moment, and level up quickly to get to high levels. I got to 125 mining in about an hour...And I sold everything on the auction house quickly at lower prices that what everyone else had.

Sure you will probably see people buy your stuff and then reput it back onto the auction house for a lot more than what you sold it for...But whatever, you got your money didn't you?

I enjoy collecting moreso than 'making' so it was an easy choice for me to mine/skin. I am a plate class, so I can keep any blacksmith I want to work with in materials, which they appreciate and reduce the cost of anything they would craft for me. I have considered dropping one for enchanting, or herbalism, but really doubt I'll go that route with this character. If you have friends, or guildmates that are trying to max out their crafting profession, you really don't have anything to worry about. And as has been pointed out before, you cans still sell stacks of components at AH for a fairly tidy return.

In beta I did mining/herbalism, but now with release I have not gone that route again. Why you ask? Because switching between the differant search things is a nuisance and most ppl forget to hit it periodically. I now go with Mining/Leather and found that to be fairly profitable.

My main is a Hunter and I am a dual gather'er. I do Skinning/Herbalism. I think this is the EASIEST combo to do, because most of the time you just leave your Herb tracker up and then proceed along as normal, switching tracking when needed. Skinning is great especially when dealing with Yeti's and Moonrage, since they drop money, cloth and you can skin them. So even if they don't drop anything after you kill them, you can at least skin them and they pay out like that. Herbalism pays out REALLY well, especially goldthorn, liferoot and steelbloom. Stranglekelp is hit or miss sometimes, but arthas tears and gromsblood sell NICELY. Very NICELY in fact.

Mageroyal, silverbloom and alot of the lower level herbs don't sell for anything.

Skinning sells pretty well, but not so much in the AH. It's really hit or miss with the AH and there is always so many leather stacks. I just sell them to the vendor. Heavy Leather stacks of 10 sell for 15s a shot. I can fill 2 bags with nothing but leather REALLY fast.

Hunters have a bit of an advantage when grinding and skinning since we can send our pet wittle the mob down then move on to another while our pet finishes off the mob so that we can grind 2 at a time.

Servers are getting older, so there is much less profit producing items with a craft (ie: tailoring, leather). If you plan to join a guild of even a relatively small size, chances are most professions are covered already. You would do better as a gatherer to a) help guildmates with their professions and b) make money for yourself.

What's the point in having two people overlapping their trades? It's generally a waste of resources. The exception is this: Lots of patterns require large amounts of mooncloth, or cured rugged hides even. These can only be made once every 4 days, and are in demand by guilds. I think our guild has 10 people churning out mooncloth now, and we still never have enough for bags and armor.

Mooncloth sells on the AH for ~15g on my server, if you really wanted to sell it there's guaranteed profit there.

Otherwise, you're in good shape with two gathering professions. I do it with my alts, and am quite satisfied with the results. Rugged leather is in higher demand on AH because people are using it in large quantities to run Dire Maul. Dragonscales sell for a pretty penny, especially black and red. End-game mining also produces a fair amount of money I hear, although I haven't gotten there yet myself.

My personal opinion isto be with 2,as I call them char evolving skills(blacksmith, enchanting, alchemy). Those are my favourite.I am a orc warrior, with enchanting/alchemy and I can tell you It costs me almost nothing to skill up.You have to remember that the game can provide enough money for all your needs.Iam currently lvl 46 and I did for all this time no more than 10-15 auctions(1 of it was for an epic item witch bought me mount at lvl 41:) )But as a conclusion I can say that each and every one of you knows what brings you pleasure, the game gives you the power of choice.USE IT!!!!

!!!!!!POWER TO THE HORDE!!!!!!!
