as of now none of the trade skills(tailoring, smithing, engineering, enchanting, alchemy, and leatherworking) are really geared at making money. however, if you want money the gathering skills(mining, hearblism, and skining) are perfect for making money. you dont have to go with just two gathering skills though. i have a lvl 19 pally who is a miner enchanter with whom i already have 20g saved up. i figure once i get to 100g for my mount money ill use any money i have to buy armor, weapons, or just green items to disenchant. you should note that the gathering skill/trade skill only works with tailoring or enchanting seenig as these are the only skill that dont require a gathering skill to go with them. you might also note that for the gathering skill to generate money you need to sell what you get at the auction house. hope i helped;)

although i only know a lot about leatherworking, i say its a good goddamn class for moneymaking
i made 130g by level 40 by hounding the AH for mats for Toughened Leather Gloves and Gem Studded Leather Belt, both used for enchanting and usable to wear, tough into large glimmering, gem into large glowing, and later on im making Stormshroud shoulders, which is earning me about 50g per time i make em

Enchanting is good for later i think, my guildees spend about 2 hours sitting there and making lotsa money

dual gathering is ok i think, i prefer to use gather/maker

alchemy also better for using stuff, and selling at the later levels, blacksmithing also can make some really good stuff later on, errrr tailoring/enchanting also for the later levels, and engineering is for using mostly

i love leatherworking :)

If you're intent on making money just try gathering professions. I do Mining/Skinning and make a decent living. Still trying to save up for a mount though ><;

I have done mining, skinning and herbalism. You definitely want to take skinning as one, since you can only have either find minerals or find herbs one at a time. In my experience I would have to say that herbalism makes you more money than mining does from the beginning. Mining can be a pain. I would also consider what I would be switching to later....if for example I planned to eventually go engineering, I would def take up mining since it is a great help and alchemy would take herbalism.

Mining - Selling ore at AH is good for making cash. You can get around 40s per bronze bar you sell. Once you get to lvl 40+ you can start mining in areas that spawn mithral, these bars are worth loads in AH.

Also skinning is a good trade leather and cloth sells easy and for alot of money in AH

Most of the professions can make you money late in the game, in one way or another. But I think it's important to remember that the professions are really meant to help your character kill things and finish quests easier/faster. I'm Herb/Alch, and while I've sold a few things on AH for a pretty penny, I think I've made far more money keeping myself supplied with the healing and buff potions that make things easier for me when I'm grinding or questing.

Buffing armor and most of my stats by a significant amount for an hour's time really helps rack up kills, and finish quests in short order. I suspect it's similar for other professions, whether you're self-upgrading your armor, adding enchants to your weapon, etc. I think long run the profit is in your increased ability to quickly and more easily "take care of business."

Although I will say I've had my moments, like the time I made nearly 3g selling a few stacks of silk bandages on AH. Not too shabby.

I said this in an earlier thread, Personally I think the best professions are: Skinning and Tailoring.

Both are made for the grind, which is really nice. When grinding beasts skinning allows you to gather leather from whatever it is you skin. When you grind humanoid mobs, you get either: Linen, Wool, Silk, or Mageweave.

When you tailor you can make bags, so no need to buy those 3-4g mageweave bags...you can make them yourself. Backpacks? You make yourself. Any Tailoring that requires leather (barbaric vests, that sell for a good amount to the cloth classes) you get yourself. When you are higher level and need better leather, no need to buy it at the AH, plus any leather you get, you can sell at the AH or to an NPC.

PLUS, if you already have skinning/leather all you have to do is drop the leather get tailoring. Either buy all your linen and woool to work your tailoring up fast, or go out and farm them for awhile.

IMO, skinning and tailoring are the 2 best moneymakers you can ask for.

Best way to make money I found is to Grind. Grinding accomplished many things, it allows a character to gaing Xp for lvl advancement. You'll also get drops that can be sold at the NPC (usually this is chump change). The good drops(uncommons and rare) get dropped less but when they do they can make decent money. My main character is a lvl 51 Druid, excluding the (uncommon / rare drops) i've calculated that im averaging about 12-15 gold per Hour. I tend to play about 1-2 a day, so with my time spent grinding and having stuff on the AH house, I tend to make about 15~25 gold per day, that excluding any rare or uncommon drops I picked up.

So best way to make money is to grind.

I find that enchanting is one of the worst money makers, people spend 2 hours trying to peddle their enchantments and once they factor the time that they could of spent grinding and the cost of materials involve, they'll find that their time would of been better spent elsewhere. Enchanting is a Guild profession, period.

On ''lower'' levels, like 20-25, where you cannot use medium leather and so on, is skinning really great. You just spend an afternoon. with an empty inventory, at killing wolves and gathering their hides and skins. Once you're done, you use all your light leather to make Embossed leather things and you sell them for good money. Then you make some cured light hides, if you have light hides ofcourse, sell them for a bit more than normal light hides and after that you sell all your medium leather for 50c each. Have Fun and keep on the Skinning!

kimmern,

For early game the try either crafting linens or leathers. Many classes require or use leather armor or leather goods (such as armor kits). All classes require pouches. This means early game you could make some income from the creation of this product.

Late in the game, Pouches start to bring in a hefty profit, one 14 slot bag can sell for up to 10-20 gold. (Trust me that's a great deal of money)

Also if you are willing to go to end game with one profession, Blacksmithing with the right recipes can yield a great deal of profit as well.

Most players discover that their primary income is derived from questing. Althought trade skills can save you money and make you money so income, many it’s dropped by mobs sell for far greater than any one item you may be able to produce. Also using gathering skills is another way in which to turn a profit.

If Questing is in your blood, tradeskills are the way to go. Whatever you decide good hunting!

I found that leatherworking kinda blows at high lvl.
Im a lvl 60 shaman, my leatherworking is stalling at 285 atm, due to the fact that the only pattern thats "hard" is Black Dragonscale Armor. The "medium" pattern I have is wicked leather gloves, I made 6 of those to gain lvl to get to 285 yesterday. They don't really sell on AH, so I sold them at vendor for 70s or something.

Now I went to burning steppes to grind black dragonscales solo, spent 3 solid hours killing both whelps and elite dragonkins. In 3 hours grinding I skinned only one black dragonscale and one worn dragonscale. The chestpiece takes 60 black to make. So according to that drop chance I have to grind 180 hours to make 1 armor. If Im lucky I can sell it for 20-30g. Also it takes me 180 hours to progress from 285 to 286 leatherworking. My next pattern is at 290, which means I need 900 hours grinding to come there. In that time I'll make 5 armors, lets say they go for 30g each thats 150g.

I am quite sure that selling 5x60 dragonscales bring in more then that. I am also quite sure that grinding some higher lvl humanoids for silver, runecloth (10 heavy runecloth bandages sell for 1g) and occasional felcloth bring in more then that.

So dragonscale leatherworking is kinda fubar, if you ask me.

I'm only at level 43 with 240 leatherworking, but up to this point I'd have to Skinning/Leatherworking has worked out well for me. I've sold skins and hides when I have a surplus, I've found a few patterns that sell well and crank those out whenever I can, and I make most of my own gear. The additional savings of only having to buy weapons at this point helps the gold to pile up.

I'm one turtle scale helm away from completing the Wild Leather quests, so I'm on the cusp of deciding between going Elemental or Tribal. I'm sure the value of leatherworking may slow down at the higher levels (as I've heard it does) but it still feels profitable to me at 43.

1. Aquivo, you don't need to save up for a mount, you get one for free throguh a quest at level 40.

2. I'd have to say blacksmithing, because everyone always needs a new sword or those kick *** boots, or soemthing like that. Hell, one time on the AH i saw a blacksmith crafted sword going for 70g. And it won. BTW, that sword was http://wow.allakhazam.com/item.html?witem=7960
