Blacksmith Opening Boxes w/ KeysFollow

#1 Jan 24 2005 at 10:25 PM Rating: Decent
Total noob quest, but can any Blacksmith open a lockbox? I know blacksmiths can make skeleton keys, but where do I learn how to open the boxes? Do I have to be a rogue to do this or just a blacksmith or both?

In order for a blacksmith to open a lockbox,

A) blacksmith needs to have made a skeleton key (silver, gold, etc.)

B) blacksmith needs to use key on box.

C) key must be of high enough "material" to open the "level" of lock

Blacksmiths don't get a skill to open a lockbox, just the ability to make/use skeleton keys.

Whats the relation between box and key?

In other words, what material key opens what kind of box?

I've tried my silver keys on several boxes, but non seem to open

What about chests? Will the skeleton keys open chests?

It seems to me the materials are expensive in relation to the level
appropriate lockboxes that drop, I save Truesilver and let a guildee rogue open things for me (and they can skillup from that too), and using up arkanite on a consumable key? no way.

So far I have only used silver and golden keys to open chests. It isn't that expensive to have a few keys on you cause doing instance zones without a rogue and seeing a chest that is locked used to **** me off. Yes it will use a metal bar and some grind stones to make the keys but the party is happy when the warrior pulls out his key set and opens the chest. :D
