Tailoring and...?Follow

Hey crafters! My main is a Gnome Warlock who took up Tailoring as her first profession. However, I can't quite decide on a second tradeskill. I hear Enchanting is good but expensive, and pretty much all of the other non-gathering tradeskills require a gathering tradeskill to make them profitable.

So, what is a gnome to do? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Could use a gathering skill until you make yuour mind up, that way you can make a little profit while your deciding, I'm pretty sure theres a way to get rid of a tradeskill so perhaps when ya higher level, you could then start enchanting, having (hopefully) got the cash with which to fund it somewhat.

One option that would work well would be Skinning. I'm level 160 tailoring and you do use leather in some tailoring recipes. From what I hear it's also a good money making profession. I'm going to drop enchanting for now and pick it up later once I get gold for a mount and my spells.

My tailor has mining as her secondary skill. Casually mining while I played for about 3 days (that's 9 hours give or take for me) I've managed to accumulate a gold and a half just from selling my copper ore. I find this to be helpful since I can buy whatever I want. (I'm level 12, stuff's not that expensive.) Honestly, though, if I ever came up short on supplies, I could easily get what I need. That was the idea. Enchanting is nice, but then you are in a constant money sink. *shrug* Just my experience.

I have two tailors. My Mage is Enchanting/Tailoring and my priest is Skinning/Tailoring. I wouldn't recommend enchanting to anyone unless they have a support network set up to feed them items to disenchant. Otherwise, it can be extremely expensive (and thus, likely unprofitable).

I'd highly recommend skinning or mining to supplement your tailoring. A gathering skill gives you a guaranteed moneymaker whereas tailoring (with only a few exceptions) really isn't. At least not on Elune (or several other servers).

My main is a Tailor/Enchanter while my alt (who's higher level then my main....) is an Herbalist/Alchemist. Combined with Enchanting, Tailoring is definitely not a money-maker since I disenchant most of the items I make to get the components needed to enchant, which I then mostly only use on myself (I repeatedly enchant my items with +5 and such) since I find it very annoying to "sell" enchantments. I should mention I recieve no support from my guild when it comes to green items to disenchant.

Since I work this way, I'm 4 levels away from my horse and only have 8 gold to my name (and I haven't trained from the master enchanter or tailor yet, which cost 4.5-5 each). This pretty much garantees me a life of scrounging to get the money needed to train my new spells and such.

On the other hand, my Alchemist can make quite a lot of money selling potions (if I really tried, I could make 5-10g a day from potions while hunting and questing normally). This made me realize that I should have gone Tailor/Herbalist on my main to double the herbs I'd find for my herbalist. In doing so, I'd be stinking rich by now.

Basically, Tailoring works great as a stand-alone profession, but it won't make you rich. If you want to make decent money, go with a gathering skill as a secondary profession. I suggest mining since there aren't as many Alchemists as Blacksmiths, so you'll have a tougher time selling the herbs.

Thanks for the advice! I took up mining the other day, and it's been quite profitable for me.

I took skinning. I gather and sell, quick and easy, beasts to skin are everywhere and it pretty much ensures that i have the money i need to buy spells at every lvl. I highly recommend it. You also need a piece of leather here and there for bags and boots so that comes in handy. And i am also able to give leather to guildmates to help them increase their lvl in leatherworking.
Just a thought.

I am a tailor enchanter. I have no problem with money. If you just dont buy anything its not that much money and by the time you can tailor grenn items you can just disenchant those and you can make money from enchat once you get a little high i dont think it cost that much
