It is important to note, that information regarding Wild leather is Posted within the replies to the thread, but Wild Leathers are not a specialization. It is just another progression for the craft of leatherworking. After completing that string of quests, your are able to choose to proceed into one of the three paths described in the title. Once you�ve chosen one of these specializations you can never take another path.

Another side note: Leather crafters will need a "Salt Shaker" in order to create Cured Rugged hide. Make sure to have an engineer craft one for you just as soon as they have a chance to do so. This item has a 3 day cool down, the hide is needed in the 290+ item creation and not in just a single piece either.

Follow the road into Azshara. Continue until reaching an old abandoned Oricish outpost. From here continue east following the mountain. As the mountain turns south stop following it. At this point you should see a Tent off in the distant east. Go to that tent and you'll find peter waiting to help you.

There you have the break down. All three should be available by lvl 42. Dragonscale seems to be the easiest to complete - get the scorpid recipes at the AH and get scorpid scales in tanaris, dragon scales in badlands. Elemental seems to be the hardest because some of the materials needed are only dropped from pretty high lvl elementals (found in searing gorge and tanaris). I don't know about Tribal.

I got done with my Wild Leather quests and was thinking that Tribal Leather would be great for me, so I went and started and finished the Tribal Leatherworking quest... to my surprise (not really) the two patterns the lady gave me wont help me in any way.... me being a Rogue... I should have went for Elemental Leatherworking...

Tribal actually has 2 amazing rogue/hunter recipies- devilsaur gauntlets and legs. +10ish stam each, +28 and +48 attack respectively, +1% crit each, with a set bonus of 2% to hit.

He's in the Hitherlands, it is located NE of Southshore but South of Aire peak, no roads lead to it, but if you follow the wall between Hillbrad Foothills and Arathi Highlands north then into the mountains, you'll run across the hiltherlands, and Wildhammer Keep. Inside the keep look for Drakk Stonehand. He's the MASTER leathercrafter, he will allow you to take your skill from 225-300.

i dont know but its startin to piss me off. Here is what i have found on the horde side: At lvl 42 i have maxed leather at 250. I am a rogue, but quess what? all i find for the mid 200 lvls is MAIL stuff!? I have found the dragonscale leatherworker trainer. He is in camp bosh along the souther mnt. in the 'badlands'. He would give me the quest at lvl 42, but i did not bother starting it because it lets you make mail, again, useless for my class. The elemental leather worker for the horde, or atleast one that i have seen, is a Tauren sittin cross legged in about the middle of the map in Arathi highlands. i would be more specific but as of yet, i could not get the quest yet. I havent been there since hitting lvl 40 though, so there is a good chance since i can learn dragonscale i can learn that too..
Tribal leatherworking, which is focused on agil and stam (supposedly) is what i have been trying to get and so far the trainer will not saying anything, nor even have a silver ! over his head. (just for your info he is located south of Grom in a little hut in stranglethorn. I heard rumors recently you had to complete the wild leatherworking quests, and by taking certain wild leather items to the tribal person, that THEN unlocks tribal leather. I really have no frame of refference and read that on some random post that i have long forgot where it was. Anyway, that is what i have gathered SO far. i am most curious just to know Which is which! i know dragonscale is for mail stuff, but is elemental or tribal best for rogues, as in agil and stam? If you know for sure, or are on of the rare people who actually has figured it out, please post and let us know.

Where in the Badlands would you get the dragon scales? I havent seen any drop off the welps, but maybe Im just unlucky..

Ok maybe I’m miss reading the elemental stuff on tbot. But the elemental leatherworker is in Searing George? Why is it the other special trainers are generally accessible to everyone but this one is locked be hind a zone door (alliance)? If I read the key quest correctly I can’t even get into the zone till 44 when I can get the quest.

Its kind of a let down to get to 42 and my leatherworking up to 240 just to have to wait till I get 44 and do a key quest.

I was told that the requirement on tribal leatherworking was lower than that of elemental.

I have to say I used to LOVE leatherworks. Then I picked Dragonscale since I can make mail...and my skill is 281. Guess what I hate it now. There are no more reciepes but couple and they stink.

Low/Med range skills were awesome. Something needs to be done about the higher levels...they need to add more. 280-300+ common Blizzard...

Maybe I'm missing something... I can't seem to find it, but not in best mood either right now at this game. (Extremely pissed. The game traded the Breastplate I was WEARING instead of both breastplates in my INVENTORY, so now I'm out of the +40 kit I had on it. ARG.)

But where do you obtain the other dragonscale receipes?

I've heard of this behavior too. In short, never have an item equipped if you're trading the same item in for a quest; it will START with the one on you and then draw from your inventory. You can lose some great enchantments that way.

Here is my first hand knowledge of the craft.

I finished my Dragonscale Leatherworking quest. I finished at level 44. (Dwarf hunter)


Requirements to make and wear dragonscale gloves:
Skill requirement: 235.
Level requirement to wear : 52.

Requirements to make dragonscale chestmail:
Skill requirement: 255
Level requirement to wear: 52

I've seen some drop recipies out there for our craft and I have to say wow! End game is looking pretty cool!

Would be really helpful for people to start to compile a list of what specialty gives access to what patters...both trained and dropped.

Links are always nice, but even just the full and accurate name of the item helps.

Im in leatherworking and just finished the wild quests. I just wanted to make sure on the choosing of Dragonscale, Elemental, or Tribal. Can you only choose one of the three types and thats what your stuck with or can you make all three types if you do the quests?

For all those that completed the Wild Leather Quests, where did you get the patttern for the Turtle Scale Gloves?

I got my pattern for Turtle scale gloves off a scorpid in Tanaris. From what I have read, you can also find one in a chest near the higher level trolls in STV. Look for it while you're farming wildvine. :)

Please note: you are not required to complete the wildvine quests to move on to dragonscale, tribal or elemental leatherworking.

Hello, sorry to ask a stupid question, but how is the elemental better for a rogue? From what i could see in the links it is only AC and Fire Resistance, which is great but not compared to a couple peices of Tribal armor. I would much rather have the attack power and sta. than the fire resist and ac. So please let me know if there is something I am missing here.. I know nothing about this honestly except what I read in these posts. I am a rogue working on my LW skill and would like to know in advance which to pick. As of right now Tribal looks best but I would like any comments or suggestions or anything that anyone can give me? Thanks a ton!

Yes, you see the Master Leatherworker in Aerie Peak to increase your max from 225 to 300. He only teaches you stuff up to 250, though.

Assuming you're asking about the quests to get Wild Leather patterns, you start that in Feathermoon in Feralas. You can safely do the quest whenever you can safely get the required materials to make the stuff that the quest giver wants (lots of thick leather, turtle scales, and wildvines - get the wildvines from herbalists or the AH). Basically, you can do these at around level 38 or so, killing 39-41 mobs. That's when I started working on them.

You can kill any 38+ (I think) skinnable beasts for thick leather. I know there are turtles from which you can get turtle scales in the harbor near Theramore Isle. Watch out for aggroing crayfish humanoid guys and threshers, though. I'm getting my wildvines from the AH for like 1 - 1.5g each.

Ok I have a few questions.

First, can you do the Wild leather quests from Pratt McGrubben and learn those recipes without commiting yourself to Wild leatherworking? Because I think those recipes are really neat and would like to learn them for my rogue and make for other jobs as well, but I'm not sure which leatherworking I want to do. Which brings me to my next question...

As I said I'm a rogue, and I know it's been asked a million times but I've never seen a good answer. Everyone says elemental is the way to go for rogue, but I haven't seen an explanation. Besides the Stormshroud set (which is not listed in this post by the way but was mentioned in another as part of the elemental set, I can't vouch whether it is or not) which gives a little boost to critical% and dodge%, which I honestly don't see as useful because I would prefer straight agility/strength, elemental doesn't seem like a good choice. It's really hard to find the materials apparently, and I haven't seen anyone say what kind of "uber" gear I could make with it if I tried. So I was wondering if first, someone could please list the various armor types that can be made with elemental so I could at least have an idea, and second tell me, in words other than "It'll be so uber and make you lots of moneys!" why I should do elemental. Everyone says that elemental recipes have lots of agility, but as I said, I've seen no links or references to the armor being talked about, so I can't be certain. As it stands now I don't see much cause to do elemental. I'm getting really close to needing to decide what to do and I can't.

And if you did so perhaps you could post a listing of those items on this thread to help others with your same question.

First of all, Voodoo set is not part of the three classes. You can farm for recipe and it is available to all LW. (High Int and Spirit)

Second, Elemental creates pretty nice stuff for rogues. I have a lvl 55 rogue in our guild and he loves the Stormshroud set due to all the chance to Critical Strike.

In addition to that he wanted the Helm of Fire (http://www.thottbot.com/?i=5299) which was a great match for him.

So out of the three classes, elemental matches rogue the most. The only draw back to this class is that it is very difficult to acquire the material to make it. The stormshroud set requires Essence of Air (EOA) which is only transmuted from Essence of Water and can only be done by a high lvl Alchemist. Average cost for EOA on my server is $20-$25g.

For a rogue,

the good pieces of elemental leather you can make are the stormshroud armor set pieces. If you compare with the corresponding pieces of wicked leather armor, you get:

+2.5% chance to crit
-1.86% chance to dodge
-45 attack power
chance to get +15-25 lightning damage
-9 stamina

With tribal leatherworking, you can make the devilsaur armor set. Again, if you compare with wicked leather :

+0.27% chance to crit
-3.456% chance to dodge
+42 attack power
+2% chance to hit
-2 stamina

It's a very rough way to compare. The way I read this: if you are a combat rogue that uses swords and/or mace, you are better off with the devilsaur set (tribal). If you are a dagger rogue that counts on ambush and backstab crits, then the stormshroud set is better (elemental).

You should also keep in mind that making the elemental stuff is much harder than the tribal stuff for now. As I understand it, the next patch will make it a bit easier for elemental leatherworking. Of course, i'm only considering these two sets of armor. Other pieces can be made that could help a rogue like the helm of fire or the corehound boots. I just felt that these two sets are the major reason to choose between the two.

The Tauren in Feralas only gives you all the wild leather quests. When you are done with them, head to Stranglehorn Vale. South-east of Grom gol, you'll find the Master Tribal Leatherworker who will give you the tribal quest (if you are at least lvl 40).

But what about Dragonscale? Is it really any good for any single class? No warrior or paladin in their right mind is going to wear mail, when they could wear plate instead. From my reading of these posts, leatherworking is a waste of time. There is nothing that any class longs for, as you can get better stuff from drops.

As a hunter, my concern is not so much for my own equipment. I can do better farming AH than the leatherworking skill offers. Instead, it would be what sells the best?

From reading this thread, it seems that Tribal would have the most demand. Can someone comment to confirm or deny this theory?

Am level 48 with 247 Leatherworking skill and have completed the Wild Leather series. About to go to Arie Peak to finish it off and make the BIG decision so your prompt reply is greatly appreciated.

The simplest answer if dependant on your server population of leathercrafters.

For example: If you server has little or no Dragonscale crafters, then the demand for Dragonscale might be very high. I was one of the first people on Silverhand to Produce and sell Dragonscale, because to this I was selling my armor for 50g. The quantity soared as more crafters starting producing armor, with demand met, the price drop drastically. At the lowest point some crafters started selling the armor below the manufacturing cost.

In short I'd watch the auction house for a few days and try to feel out the lowest used Leathercraft, then pursue that for monetary gains.

As a side note, if income is your greatest concern you may want to try a double gathering profession. Although no true crafting is involved in this type of venture the supply of goods to crafters is the quickest way to earn gold.
