which craft is worth it?Follow

well im sorta new....been around a week. Finally got my hunter to 20. anyways, i started out with herbalism, then i thot no skinning/leathercraft is the way to go. So i started that. I got 150 skinning and 80 leathercraft. I didn't really like it, since it was kinda boring. Anyways so my friend hunter who does NOT follow the textbook hunter, which IMO is awesome, chose herb/alch. and he convinced me that it works and that it's really cool. he also said that for hunters, skining/leather works great till u hit 40, then what? you have no way to make "good" mail armor and so it goes down the drain. Well i got rid of skinning and leather since it bored me to death and i didn't like it. now im wondering which craft i should pick. I did some reasearch and i saw that engineering is good for hunters as you can make guns and scopes. I also thot that if i lvled mining/smithing (chose mining for fun tonight, got it to 70) then i could make armor for when i got to lvl 40 and for my friends. Then herb/alch which im really not sure about, im confused about this profession as to what it does. I know it makes potions and stuff, but im not sure about the economy of how stuff sells and things like that. so if anybody could help me and maybe give me a little nudge into the right direction that would be awesome. if not that ok too, but please no flames:D

Don't do herb/alch they both make almost nothing if you get lucky you can make a decent amount but any other profession is better.

Actually while you would think blacksmithing would work out good for a Hunter past 40, all the high end blacksmithing recipes are plate armor. Leatherworking goes down 3 different paths at high end, once of which is in fact mail armor. Though if you were bored at low level leatherworking, you probably won't like the high end either ;)

I would agree that alchemy isn't a real money maker either. If you just want to make money, it's hard to beat just doing two gathering trades. Like skinning/mining or something.

Engineering is pretty fun, and a good boon to any class. You get to make yourself lots of trinkets and stuff, some of which are quite useful in battles. Plus you can wear sunglasses, can't go wrong there! hehe

Which profession is most “worth it” really depends on the player. A friend and I are playing rogues. He has skinning and leather working. Since the start of the game, most of the armor both our rogues wear has come from him. But then we mostly solo or group in twos or threes. For those who do a lot of instances, they may get better armor from mob drops. Some people swear by verbalism and alchemy, as it allows them to create potions to buff and heal themselves with. Some people prefer mining and engineering because of all the fun gadgets that they can create for themselves. Some people don’t enjoy crafting things, so they choose a couple of gathering professions and sell everything at the auction house. Personally, I’ve created several alts just so that I can practice all the professions.

The “secret” is to find the professions that best suit your likes and needs. And you’re the only one who can decide that.

Is there any consequences to changing trades? like losing skill levels or anything? how often can you change and does it cost the same to go back to an old trade?

When you leave a profession, and join a new one, you start at level 1. Should you go back to your old profession later, it will also start at level 1 again.

Thanks for mentioning that

Do you forget all your recipies if you do this? Or you get to keep your recipies, but your skill level is back at 1 so you have to work your way up?

Well, I would like to know what combination of proffs. will make the most money. I would love to test it out myself (like i did in FFxi and wrote a fishing guide as a result) but as I live in Europe, the game hasn't been released yet. So I would like to know which crafts will make me a nice profit, so I can start those as soon as the game comes out here!

I am going to become a Human Paladin.

Hunter you say...?

Well I'd go off with Leathering/Skinning, Blacksmithing/Mining, or Engineering/Mining.

Leathering/Skinning: Would help you a Hunter for a long time through this game. Providing yourself with upgradable armor every few level ups, which would help and save you gold (from buying armors from AH "auction house"). Getting the materials from skinning, which is entirely very easy to skill up, and not to mention numerous beasts to skin! Leathering later on will being providing more advanced recipes to make Mail Armors, which Hunters can wear after level 40.

Blacksmithing/Mining: Would help you a Hunter with his main, or whatever you would like (etc. 1h/2h weapons) hand weapon. Providing yourself with the skill to upgrade and twink up the weapons, which would please you the most! Getting the materials is some what easy as well, find/fight in caves, fight along mountain sides, rugged hills, below waters, and on boulders! Also having the Mine Radar helps you spot the mines faster! There are alot of extreme weapons you can make later on with Blacksmithing, helping you save gold from purchasing though AH.

Engineering/Mining: Would help you a Hunter alot as well, since Hunters Prime Damage is through their Pets/Range Attack. Providing yourself with the skill to upgrade and twink up rifles/guns, and hunters got talent points for updating range attack skills! Getting materials with mining, which isn't difficult, and the other materials can be bought from engineering material stores, or from AH. Guns/rifles tend to be a little more difficult to find, so having this trade skill will help you save time from finding them, and gold from purchasing from AH.

So its your choice to decide what would suit you best. You can disaggree with my info, or take it in use, goodluck as a Hunter!
