Hello Zam!

This is Avina of Siren, stopping in to see if there are any roleplayers who frequent this forum who would be interested in my RP linkshell on Siren, Tales of Vana'diel. I have seen a lot of posts regarding new and old players joining the game in here, so I am hoping for some to see this. :)

ToV has been around for a little over two years now and still doesn't show any signs of slowing down... in fact, we have more members and are more active than we have ever been. We are looking for friendly RPers with a love for the game's story to join our group and take part in the fun. :) As our theme, we RP as the adventurers appearing throughout the game's story... a group of (sometimes) unlikely heroes placed in a position where they must rise to save the world.

An interest in the game's story and an interest in RP is all you need. We do not discriminate on levels, game experience, or RP experience.

You might be a little better off posting on the Siren forums. Though I admit I haven't seen much, if any, RPing on FFXI since I started playing in 2005.

My girlfriend really wants us to RP in an MMO together (specifically, she wants us to RP in WoW, but I have no volition to play WoW), but I told her I'd look into FFXI (used to be hardcore but haven't played in about 4 years). I don't know if she'll go for it because she was hoping for an RP server, but considering that doesn't exist maybe she'll consider it.

Can you give me a better idea of how active you guys are? I'm going to have to pay for a server transfer on top of new discs and subscription, so I'm going to want a lot of info before we decide to try things out. Thanks!

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

Activity tends to go up and down depending on how many people we have and their level of activity/interest. Right now we have about 13 active members with about 9-10 of them RPing pretty frequently.

Since we have these numbers I've found that its not really effective to have the RP shell where people just pop in randomly hoping to find people, so I set up specific events that target openings in the RPer's schedule, so that we can get as many RPers together as possible. When we get the group together like that, the RP sessions can take anywhere between 3-5 hours. This week I currently have three RPs scheduled, one on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Last week we had two scheduled but we also did a third since a lot were online and we figured why not lol. The dates and times during the week can jump around a lot, as I mentioned I try to schedule these for when most people would be able to go.

Aside from the ones that I schedule specifically, there is nothing precluding (in fact I encourage it) RPers popping into the shell at any time and just having fun with whoever happens to be online at the time, and people do take advantage of this. Sometimes its nice to be able to have quiet one-on-one moments with other characters.

Since you and your girlfriend would be coming as as a server transfer, we have a great social LS that the RPers hang out in, as well as other really friendly players. Great, great folks in this LS, and they will help you out on tons of stuff. :) So when you aren't RPing, you definitely have a place to hang and people who will help you enjoy the game.

We actually had a couple recent server transfers so maybe it'd be better for you to head over to our forums and talk to them and see how they are enjoying it, since they went through a similar situation. Account creation is free, and we'll always answer any questions you have. :)

The site, again, is

Hey! So awesome to see an RP LS just as I was thinking of coming back to the game. I had a few questions, though.

1. Are you guys reasonably active? Vana'diel gets lonely when none of my friends will play with me. =P

2. Will the LS help with such milestones as the diplomacy dragon boss fight and the sub-job items? Or would I be able to count on that social LS you mentioned for that? I recall the last time I quit being because my old server was dying and I couldn't get a group for -anything-.

3. Do you accept returning players that are liable to ask a lot of dumb questions? =P

4. Is the LS in character or out of character?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Sorry, the server we're currently on sucks, and it went down for about three days. This is the second time in a month this has happened, so we are now in the process of moving to a new forum. We actually have the new forum set up and ready, we're just in the process of moving all the important content over.

Once the move has been completed I will update my original post with the link to the new forums. :) We're going to be moving to guildwork.
