Worth it?Follow

I used to play, a LONG time ago, but the game was a little slow paced for me. I did not have time since I was involved in so many sports and struggling with school, so I couldn't get to all of the end game stuff. Now that football is done for the year, and I don't want to get a job, I'm looking for a game to keep my busy. FFXI is the only one that hooked me enough to keep playing. I have played WoW and Warhammer since, but both cant keep me interested. Is this game worth me coming back? Are there enough people still playing to level all the way up? This looks like my best option to prevent boredom, but I want to make sure I have fun without wasting my money. Thanks

Dunno what long time means for you but i would say, yes, if you have nothing better to do and wanna play an online game you should come back :P

Final Fantasy XI expansions atm:

Rise of the Zilart
Chains of Promathia
Treasures of Aht Uhrgan
Wings of the Goddness

Population ingame is still the same as a few years ago.
You can see that the SE FFXI anniversary game box worked since there is a huge wave of newbys lately.
The rmt population is decreasing.
A long time i thought it were just monthly storys from POL just to act like they are doing something to the payers/players but in a lot areas that were overpopulated by rmt in the past are starting to become empty.

There are several storylines connected to every single expansion.
RoZ, CoP and ToAU are compleet, they are still busy with WotG.
If you want to know what all is added thx to all updates and expansions you can look on this forum or on http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org
Believe me, a lot has changed.
Just to throw some random subject up:
- Chocobo
- Level Partys
- Areas
- Dynames
- Claims
- Item drop rates + locations
- Job abilitys
- New jobs
- Missions
- Experience points

If you want to start as a level 1 job again there is no longer the problem of endless seeking. SE added something called Level Sync option in the party menu.
This is worth to look further into on ffxiclopedia.
My explanations suck a bit.

I left for the first time right after CoP and then came back for some ToAU but left again about 2 months before WotG. I have never had a class above level 57, and would probably restart. I still don't have all the time in the world to devote to video games, so would it be possible for me to get up to some of the end game scenarios? Or get some of the epic items? I remember I was always pretty poor, but that is because I refused to spend time crafting since I had to share the account with my brothers and didn't have time to level up and craft in my turn. I think I now have the patience to actually play this game, so I think I'm going to get the trial and see how it is.

Well for what it's worth, the pace of the game has picked up significantly. They raised the exp you can get from EP+ mobs, buffed you when you have signet on, allowed for people to sync down to your level. Heck, they even gave you the option to get an NPC to level with :)

But just like everything else, how far you go depends on your conviction to the game. Even if you don't have a lot of time to spend, small progress is still progress. And it gets you that much closer to attaining the things you want!

Making money got a lil bit easyer, well, if you dont mind to do some quests over and over.
There is an easy quest (if you have the expansion WotG) in
"Southern San d'Oria (S)" / "Ronfaure (S)".
Kill some flying bugs (forgot the names but they easy), obtain 4 wings, deliver them to the npc and hop, 4k. Since its repeatable and very easy you can make some gil easy aswell.
