Deflation!! Can i have it!Follow

#1 Jan 23 2006 at 7:39 PM Rating: Decent
Well coming off the worst price hikes I have ever seen in my life I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel as prices are starting to finally crash! looks like either the gil sellers have given up and moved on to something more profitable or raised their prices so not every new kid on the block is walking around in the best buyable gear in the game... Kinda sucks to see someone walking around in something that took you to years to get and they just started last week! Wonder if Soph has a deflation plan ;p

I sure do! It's called....do nothing :) .

FFXI price hikes like this care of themselves over time. Right now it's a buyer's market so gil is worth more (and items are worth less). And though they won't drop to their original levels, it's easier than ever to make gil today.

Don't believe me? Follow the trend. Remember back when leaping boots cost 300k? Remember when no one had 300k to buy them? Wow...300k was a lot of money. I make that in a day of farming to make that today.

I've already had some items go for less then what I bought them for. Bought some HQ ice and thunder staffs and both are 1 mil less them when I bought them. Silly me should have waited till after the christmas rush :)

Its nice to see some of the prices going down though, it's making some of items that I wanted obtainable so that I won't have to spend a fortune on items that are nice to have rather then a must have.

Now if only someone would lower the damn price of peacock charms I'd be really happy.

Try not to think of it as losing; you bought a HQ stave, you still have an HQ stave. What really happened is that the money you used to buy it with was worth less then than it is now.

Down the road, you'll probably come out ahead. Inflation will still continue, money will be worth less. Your HQ stave, however, will not lose value. That is, unless a newer, better, cheaper alternative is introduced.

You know, you don't have to buy everything. You can try for the rare-ex version. I've checked on Argus a few times and he is not as camped anymore.

No patience on Argus? BCNM {You can have this.}

It's not impossible to find a few friends to do it, it's not even a crazy KS99 or uncapped BCNM or ENM. You don't need 3 alliances to do it, it's a regular old level 40!

Don't know what the BCNM is? Here you go.

For that insane price you would think the **** charm would be a drop from some level 90 HNM who only pops once a month at night during foggy weather on lightsday during the new moon. >.>

Hmm, it would be cool if they made Moldavite Earring drop from BCNM. I'm so sick of Mysticmaker.

Not really, they go in different slots. The only thing that could really replace another piece of equipment is a "better" piece of equipment for the same slot. Obis are actually complimentary to the staves.

The Obi's only activate with appropriate weather or day of week, whereas the staves are an all-around 10% (or 15% w/ HQ) bonus to damage, and reduction of resistance. They also would not have any effects on avatar perpetuation for SMNs.

Actually most of the time I haven't camped Argus is not due to the competition but just because the general lack of time. I only 3 nights, 1's taken by a static, 1's currently being taken to do KS runs which leaves me sunday.

Maybe one of these days I'll camp him, its only a wish item right now considering I generally play either as beastmaster or mage jobs so chances are I won't be using it for a while. It was going to be once of those nice "Lookie what I got" items.

As for the bcnm, That things the bane of my existance. I've done it 4 times with friends, each of us have burnt through 160 seals and the biggest drop we recieved was 1 erase. I've pretty well given up for now because there are other things I'd rather burn seals on.

As for my HQ staffs, ya it'll definatly be nice to have them and chances are I won't be selling them till I'm done with FF. Other then my Kabraken's axe and maybe some low level gear I tend to keep everything that I buy.

2 Staffs down, 6 to go, with the way they're dropping, might be grabbing another 2 soon.

edit: duh, 2 - 8 = 6 2 down 8 to go?!? School system at work here.

SE should make the auction house like in WoW, I personally think WoW's AH system, is better than FFXI's that would mix things up a bit in prices

I used to think that the inflation was mostly due to the fact that so much more gil is introduced into the economy via quests, missions, selling items to NPC, etc. than is taken out via chocobo, airship, taxes, buying from NPC, etc. since more and more gil = less and less value. I honestly didn't think RMT was the main culprit since it's only really transferring wealth from one person to another, not introducing more gil into the economy that wasn't already there (unless you want to believe the conspiracy theories that SE supplies gil to gilselling websites).

But when prices on big-ticket items skyrocketed at just the same time as gilsellers had their Christmas sales, and seeing prices on those same items go down once those sales were over, the correlation is pretty obvious to me now.

I still don't think that inflation will magically go away even if SE banned every single gilseller. The deflation seems to be more on big-ticket stuff that gilbuyers would want, more common items like food, ninja tools and crystals are still crazy high. (As a WHM, I find it disheartening that people still expect teletaxi service for what amounts now to half the price of a stack of earth crystals ; ; ...but that's another post xD)

Well, in your terms of inflation/deflation. There has been something good happening

Hauby 10mil > 7mil
SH 25mil > 10mil
Snipers 4mil > 2.5mil

Does that answer your question?

but in a general sense... there has been some sort of deflation. Prices are starting to drop down a little in price. Kinda like the share market ehy... people bought bought n bought mighty'o'pieces of armour, caused a sudden uproar in demand. Now... people are "fearing" a market crash, now selling off their wonderful pieces of armour at discounted rates.

Id much rather materials come down more. atleast to something reasonable. stopped playing as one of the "wealthy" N/As back in teh day, came back a few days ago to look around and found I couldnt afford more than 5 stacks of rainbow cloth... lol?

Tho it seems they are less than what they used to be, just wish things would settle a bit.

As for the correlation between teh xmas rush and price hikes. the 'conspiracy' of SE selling gil to companies still holds true if you beleive that. And plus, there still was no exxess money, its jsut that most of it st idle on gilselling mules until everyone wanted gil for christmas.

I think it was a combination of cheap gil prices and all the kiddies home for christmas holidays with nothing better to do than play FFXI.

Keep in mind it wasn't so much the surplus of gil in the system, it was the ppl buying gil who didn't care if they spent more for an item.

If you have a mil, and want to buy an item for 3mil, so you order up 10 mil, do you care if you have to spend 4mil for it? Hell no! you can just get more! They didn't spend a month farming for that 3mil, they just hopped online and got it within the hour.

Now all the kiddies are back to school, playing less, have spent their xmas money on gil, and now, most likely, have to sell stuff off to get other things they want.

It was kind of disturbing to be able to throw an item on AH for a 20-30% price increase, and have it sell in a couple of hours. Thankfully, looks like those days are no more.

Like I've said before, I don't support gilbuying, but I do understand it (sorta) Just, if you're going to do it, do it responsibly.
