Why is this game so hard to get back into?

I used to play FFXI religiously back in the day. However right around the time COD 4 came out my LS disappeared. So I lost interest quick. This will be the third time I try to come back to the game I once loved.

So here is my question. Why is it so hard to find a PT these days? I've sat around the Jueno area with my 18 BRD flag up and looking and can't get even a small nibble. I thought that this level sync thing was gonna help eliminate the down time. Now every time I log on I can't seem to get a PT and I wonder why I waste my time.

Are there new areas I should know about where I should be trying to get parties? Or is it just kind of a crapshoot? Jueno is like a dustbowl these days. When is SE ever going to consider a server migration to get more people playing at once?

Nowadays most players hang around in Whitegate, and usually shouts for parties are done there. Nevertheless, there are days when even there's nothing much going on at all (or shouts in Japanese which exclude 99% of players in EU and US).

With or without level synch, level 18 is still mostly Dunes. Best to solo there while looking for party. With FoV you can gain a level solo in reasonable time. Qufim parties in the early 20's are usually quite easy to get then.

I have gotten back into the game with my husband. We are duo'ing BST's the whole way and let me tell ya its a lot better now than it used to be. With Field support and /DNC it makes life a lot easier when duo'ing on BST. I have alos noticed a lot of people doing these SMN burns.... apparently they get to 75 within 2-3 days. Personally I would never do that, but w/e floats their boat I guess..
