Is buying gil really that bad?Follow

It's not really that expensive, and it does save time from farming and such. You can actually get some really good deals on Ebay. People ***** and moan about the "economy" of the game, but who gives a rat's ***. It's a VIDEO GAME people. Get a clue here, it doesn't really matter.

The biggest complaint would be how you use that gil. If you are willing to pay jacked up prices then thats a problem, but if you control restraint and only pay what items are worth and maybe to lvl a craft its not as bad.

Most see it as supporting the gil sellers, some of the gil sellers are actually nice but some will and do anything to get a claim.

It's a video game but a lot of people spend quite a lot of time paying it. Gilsellers who mpk and gilbuyers/idiots who mess up the economy makes it less fun to play. Get a clue, it matters as much as any other hobby people might have.

I think buying gil is liking using a cheat on a game. Ruins the whole point of playing that game. You buy a game, get home use cheats and complete the game in a day. You miss quite a big bit of that game because you used cheats and theres no challange in the game. Just like ffxi, buying gil removes a big part of the game.

You need to go play WoW.

Being too lazy to farm is allowed there.

Is buying gil bad?

No.

Is supporting gil sellers bad?

Yes.

People associate purchasing gil with nearly everything wrong with the game anymore, especially price inflation. While some of these accusations are true, you have to remember that this is the fault of players as well since no new currency is being introduced in to Ragnarok's server by these transactions. Keep in mind, every time you sell an item for a little more than it's being listed as, you're supporting inflation. Ever helped out someone new when they get the game by giving them a small amount of gil? It's the same principle. That being said though, the people who sell gil must acquire large amounts of it in small periods of time to maintain a business. This means that they will, more often than not, religiously camp Notorious Monsters that drop items that people need very badly in order to charge whatever price they deem right for the item. It's brilliant when you really think about it. You're buying the gil from them to buy items that you really need that they're probably monopolyzing. These people are generally not nice or cooperative and will steal claims or MPK to insure that they get the drops that they need. So while the transferrence of large amounts of gil isn't necessarily horrible, supporting these people and encouraging them to continue doing these things is. Before you think about purchasing, please try to think about everyone else on the server and how it's going to affect them.

yea i say gil buying isn't that bad, but it's funny how every1 assosiates that u r going to use that gil to buy items that they camp when quite a bit of items normal players made that price, look @ PCC, it's only a BCNM drop now (for the one u can sell). well this was 20mil before patch, hit 7min after, and now it's back up to 15mil-20mil, guess what u just bought something that normal players can get just fine and sold, Buying gil people always say, "O they r going to use it all there and then for an item(s)." well thats real money, Unless ur so hooked that this game took over ur life, i really dought that ur going to just toss it all away the sec u get it in ur DB. I mean, yea we say O if ur going to do it then use it for something to craft. Um..... u see crafting, half of the stuff u lvl off of u loose money constantly. Smithing i have gone through 1+mil just for 1 lvl (and thats in lvl 69ish). crafting prices r screwed up, XD venimous claw is more expensive then then a scorp. Harness. i mean is that screwed up or what.

Yes gil sellers can be nice or can be the biggest #&$'s that u will find. Most items that ***** us over aren't the best items, it's the normal items that we get all the time, the every day items that eat away gil. Btw any1 see whats comming in the new patch, um.... SE is trying to fix MPKing, 1 i think they mean this for the people who get POed and do this to others just for the hell of it, and for the gil sellers i think is the biggy.

all i'm really saying is gil buying is fine, but think before u do so, and for others um.... here u go. if an item is too expensive

"DON'T BUY IT". Items will go down if they don't sell, that is what tax is for. if they keep putting it in for an uped price and no1 buys it then unless they lower it, the tax will eat away their gil.

CB

XD woops i'm on my bro's account

While it is now difficult to use the argument "The money is better spent on rl stuff" considering the current prices gil buying is wrong for a simple reason:

It supports gilsellers.

If you want to support people stealing your NMs/HNMs and finding (rather clever at times) ways to mpk you and others then ok! But if you want to have endgame intact and working fine then do not buy gil.

Gilbuying is supporting the downfall of endgame. While the recent patch is going to solve some mpk issues it will not solve all. At the same time it will not solve the stealing of HNMs (Serket, Roc, etc) problem.

So is gilbuying wrong? Yes.

Agreed. What I still fail to understand is the user's intial reasoning.

It's a video game, granted, but if it's something so minimal and trivial to you then why would you spend your hard earned money on this video game that people shouldn't give a "rat's ***" about?

When I was in middle school and Ocarina of Time came out, a friend of mine purchased it and couldn't get passed the first dungeon and paid me to do so. By the end of the month he had paid me fifty dollars in total to beat the entire game for him, ten dollars less than the game originally set him back, and I'm quite certain he never touched it afterward. Where is the fun in this logic? I can say without a doubt that one of the most rewarding experiences in this game is working hard to save up for an item and finally being able to purchase it. I don't know what level you are, but to anyone else, do you remember that feeling you got when you made your first 10,000 gil? Your first 100,000 gil? Your first 1,000,000 gil? I can't imagine how rewarding it can possibly be to need several million gil and have it the next day you wake up. And why stop there? Why not just pay someone to level up for you, to do your missions and quests for you? That way you'll never have to really earn anything in the game, you'll just log on one day and be Level 75 with all of this gear you have no right owning and partying and adventuring with people you don't even know.

No one here enjoys having to amass large amounts of gil, but it's part of the game and it's what makes a lot of it rewarding, being able to look back and say you did this all on your own. I know nothing in this thread is going to change your mind about anything, but I hope some things said here at least get the message across to a few people who might have thought otherwise.
