I've Lost My FFXI Mojo --- help!Follow

Yo to my fellow Ragnarok server dwellers...It's been well neigh 1.5 years since i embarked on my life as a inhabitant on Vana'diel. I am a 7ft 7 Galka Paladin who lives and dies by my trusty sword and shield (and occassionally, staff and greatsword). I have recruited 2 other friends to join me in my adventures and made many other good friends (hollering out to Goal, my fellow Galka brother and Illivatur! and members of the Avanguardian LS!). But since then, my 2 friends (Miaofeng and Regor) have hung up their trusty armour and arms, put aside their spellbooks and unsaddled their chocobos and emigrated to the World of Warcraft. ...
Since then I have played less and less (also due to my work and my newborn daugther...cuter than a taru and way bigger, thank Althea!) and have lost my mojo to want to continue playing... i have decied to suspend my account with effect from Aug 1, 2005...

Just wondering if any one else has/had similar experiences and how do they get their mojo back? i guess that the primary reason is that i'm still stuck at level 58, never joined Ballastia or Garrison and want to really try them out along with BCNM and ENMs but i hate to trouble my LS mates with my low level jobs etc (trust me, they have been very very nice...which is why i don't wanna trouble them any further)

Yeah, i guess that I'm just basically "burnt out" but still, i wanna continue playing FFXI on Ragnarok server but just can't bring myself too...

It is a good idea to take a break away from the game when you start to get burned out from XPing or some other aspect of the game.

If I get burned out XPing, I usually go craft, complete mission/quests or explore different areas of FFxi.

If I get burned out from playing FFxi in general, I take a break from the game itself until I regain my desire.

Take care and have fun. Real life > FFxi.

I've had it happen to me.
Quite a few times since November 22, 2003(The day my first content ID started), actually.

Usually, I'll just stop playing, I don't go throught he hassle of suspending my account or anything, but eventually, I'll just be in a mood where I feel like doing something -- and that's when I remember that ol' FFXI-goodness.

I've also had two of my friends leave me in the game, one about 6 months after we started, and the other about a month ago.

My solution? I got another friend to come play with me, and it's a blast all over again.

There's nothing wrong with taking a break, especially if you have other things to attend to -- you'll be welcomed back when you decide to come back, anyways!

Enjoy your break!

I, too, have had this happen to me a few times. When it does, I sit back and think about what I really, really enjoyed about the game, and go do that. Or, I craft. I really enjoy crafting.

One of the things that helped me the MOST though was what I call random kindnesses. When I am in a funk, I go to a newbie area, and help people with quests, missions, or leveling. Sometimes I give out newer level armor (that I leveled my craftings on) to newer people. What you couldn't GIVE to your linkshell, makes a difference to those starting out (think level 14 rings, dhamel mantels, etc.). There is always someone in Vana'diel that needs help, regardless of job level.

One question I do have of you is: Why do you think you are troubling your linkshell? From MY perspective, one of the reasons I still play is to help my friends who have helped me and to spend time with them. And, there are those (probably a few in your LS), that log in every day to see whats going on, and are looking for the chance to help people because they like to do it.

There are several linkshells devoted to ENM, Ballista, and garrison events that you might also want to try. ENM is quite fun, although I never really got into ballista or garrison events.

Hook up with a red mage around your own level and duo stuff.
(Jump to the bottom in case you don't wanna read everything in between.)

Tough and very tough crabs in Kuftal Tunnel works well, I believe. I've always dreamed about going with a level 58 PLD and skill up/duo crabs there. I'm a RDM58, and sometimes the parties I join doesn't work out. EXP'ing is sometimes sooo boring. Other times it's fun though. If you wanna make slow, but decent EXP with me - I'll haste/refresh us both and we can bring whatever weapons we desire and try to skill up magic skills, weapon skills and take turns on tanking/try to figure out how to share hate pretty well. Killing Tough or Very tough mobs together with one more person is for me very rewarding in terms of enjoying the game. It also helps my shield/parrying/sword/dagger skills a lot, and if you wanna give me a tell ingame I got several weapons you can borrow from me. Elemental staves - 150 delay dagger - low damage, 210 delay wands. I don't have any other weapons due to my main being a RDM. I like to share experiences with people so if you're up for chatting about crafting, soloing, job abilities I'm up for it as well. I'm often on 17.00 to 02.00 GMT, which i think would be the equivalent of.. um.. 11 AM to 8 PM Eastern Standard Time. This is on weekdays. I'm usually on a lot in the weekends unless I'm playing soccer or getting drunk together with some non-FFXI friends lol.

I got a friend who's a PLD my level and when we were level 54 we duo'ed a lot of Decent - Very tough Orcs and even a couple IT's. PLD and RDM can be a very potent duo, which can share hate with a little practise - unless the PLD uses his hate tools for all they're worth lol. With your galkan strength and vitality, and my buffs and taru qualities, we could have a lot of fun and challenge pretty tough stuff. I have a lot of hate tools which relies less on timers, but more on MP. Sleep, Sleep II, Gravity, Cure spells, Aspir, Drain and the occasional tier II nukes ^^

The bottom line/conclusion:

OK, maybe I went a little too in-depth compared to what you wanted to hear. But all in all - duo'ing or fighting stuff in smaller parties for fun is what I like to do to keep my mojo. Trying to duo together with different jobs is very inspiring to me. Fighting with a white mage one day, a dragoon the next, a thief another day - makes me appreciate the different qualities that lies within each job. When the PLD MBs Holy and I MB Fire II on the skillchain we just did together I feel that my character enters a Nirvana state of mind. Or Altana state of mind, rather. If this isn't enough, then you should take a break, until you really miss the game. Maybe two weeks, maybe a month. A friend of mine, Dauingen, took two months off - got sick of WoW - and came back and is now more determined than ever to beat this game.

My two gil - good luck on your decision ^^

EDIT: Give me a /tell ingame in case you wanna kick mobster butt. My name is Stackdump =)

Dear Fellow Ragnarok Vana'dians, thanks for all the replies!
Yes, i guess that i will be taking a break. actually i have been offline since late June 2005 til now. My character is officially suspended but of course, activating my Content ID is as simple as a snap of the fingers.
The advice from all of you here have touched my heart and it is good to know that i am not some freak. guess we all would lose our mojo every now and then. it's just like work. after a while, you need to take a vacation...

STACKDUMP! I will definitely take you up on that offer! the only issue to trying to make the time meet. I live in Singapore and the time difference is approx. 12hrs. in other words, when it is night here, it's morning over there. I used to get up at 3am in the morning to duo with a friend (Elven Mnk) but after a while, my work suffered and i had to stop. But i will definitely send you a /tell and see if we can work out something. maybe even set up a party since our levels are the same and RDMs are hot property! (as compared to PLDs and esp, a Galka PLD.... we just get no love)

BTW, i do love helping out the rookies and you are right, perhaps i should just camp at Valkrum and whack Bogys.... (i HATE undead!!!!)

Woah, I didn't know you'd be so positive! ^^ That's great ^^

Oh, about the time zones. Sounds like we could pull off a weekend thing. One of us could be on at 22.00 (10 pm) and the other at 10.00 (10 a.m.) or something to that effect. Me and that australian crazy dark knight friend of mine from Australia use to do that alot ^^ (Always a work-around, eh?) Here's what you can do to contact me: I'm often online while /away - so if you want to, you could /sea all stackdump - and Stackdump, Stackdumpbastok (mule) or Stackdumpsandy (mule) will pop up. Otherwise /sea all thesushifactory and she will pop up. Sushi's my salesmule in Jeuno, she was originally going to bazaar sushi I made, but so far I'm not producing much sushi. I don't want to go public with what I _do_ make though, but it's not sushi lol.

Then just /befriend that character, and then we'll at least be able to PM eachother with ease. But by all means, I respect your break, so just take your time - in the meantime we can just keep in touch in this thread - or if people find that annoying we could just PM eachother in here I guess.

Stackdump never had any siblings. So having a galka PLD dragging him out to Kuftal tunnel or Castle Oztroja would be like.. you'll be the big brother he never had!
