Kirin since patchFollow

Our LS fought kirin for the first time today since the rng nerf. Seemed like he was regening HP faster than we could damage him. I was there as a ninja and actually had to warp back and change job to ranger so we would have extra damage.

After fighting for about 1.5 hours his hp was around 80%. Caught a couple bad stonega IV's in a row and he regened almost to full hp as we recovered. Changed things up a little and put two bards in pt with 4 rangers. Prelude x 2 and Minuet x 2. It was the best we could come up with at short notice and we finally started to damage him a bit. Then he hit us hard with astral flow (Ramuh). Seemed alot worse than normal. Killed 12-15 at least.. Reminded me of Carby Astral... While we recovered he regened from about 60-80% hp.. After that, something happened ive never seen before. Kirin ran out of mp =P He stopped casting completely and finally, 2.5 hours later we killed him. 4 hours total on Kirin...

Heres some rough numbers of damage before and after patch..

Before (E-bow, Demon Arrows - Sole Sushi)

90-110 dmg per shot
700-800 sidewinders
w/ bard
150-170 per shot
900-1100 sidewinders

After

30-50 per shot
200-350 sidewinders
w/ 2 bard's
60-90 per shot
400-600 sidewinders

I think you're looking at the real change here.

Most of us (RNG) have discovered that with the most minimal changes we can get right back to our old DMG, and in some cases surpass it in an XP party. So obviously the 'nerf' wasn't aimed at the Ranger JOB (since it's effectivley unchaged in XP parties 1-75) but rather at how ALL players view end game.

Something tells me SE was none too happy with idea of its mightiest God getting smacked around in 90 minutes or less. So they came up with a way to prevent that.

There is a sick personal chuckle from reading that story. NIN went and changed to RNG or they 'threw more rangers at it', which in a weird twist of irony is exactly what someone was complainging about and WHY RNG should be nerfed. Just my sick mind.

But yeah, the trick is to find the new combos and strats that work against end game mobs. And given the new rumbling about gods in Sea and the fact we all know there is a new Expansion on the not too distant horizon as well as the very high likelihood of a new job or two (if SE is to be believed) it does tend to lead one to believe they slowed us down to make us stick around for it all. Or, if we want to speculate wildly, that something is coming soon that will change many of the things we've come to expect as 'normal'.

Yea, it was our only option at the time. Black mages deal nice damage to kirin, and 5 seconds later die =P The nice thing about the ranger strat is the /nin to help them kite for a few min until they die or another rng gets hate. One idea that would work pretty well would be load up on mnk/nin's. Chi after chi. Would require a ton of monks tho to keep decent damage coming in. Also, could even attempt a non-kite strat with tons of smn's. No clue if it would work or not, but would be interesting to see.

And about throwing more rangers at it. Regardless of how much they have gimped ranger damage, its still one of the few jobs who can deal any damage at all to a kited mob. Until we come up with a solid non-kite strat, theres not a whole lot of options D;

edit - To Random Error

Not sure exact numbers but Kirin has something like 60,000 hp and regens 100hp per second. So of course we used EES and the 200 damage or whatever it did, was laughable... But my ninja mijin did 935 ^_^

60,000 can't be right, nor can 100hp per second (you'd never kill the *******) but, linkshells be warned, if you're soon to try kirin and never have before, I would suggest loading up on SMN (our leviathan was doing 500-800 spinning dive) and MNK (which we lacked last night) to really dish out the DMG. RNG nerf wasn't so noticeable for me until we fought kirin- so don't depend on RNG to save the kirin day. u_u

wow i offer an idea and i get rated down to all hell... /sigh...

theres other 2hours other than EES... if you're going in with SMNs then astral flow the SOB. the spike damage from 4-5 astral flows would leave him hurting for a little while... (yes im aware of the hate generated from the 2hr etc etc, there are ways to dealing with it. HNMlses should know these ways)

I dunno how you can NOT kite him. But I suppose it has to be explored.

Hmm, of course, if you make it a non Kite fight, that give RNG the ability to come back and find a sweet spot for him as well. Not going to put up mad numbers on him, but it will at least inject some consistency and steady chipping away even against his regen.

There's an answer to it, just need to start experimenting in a big way.
