Leaping Boots only cost 250K?

Emperor's Pin was about that price also?

Having those items didn't really matter that much?

Exp. partes allowed a little more flexibiilty in job combos (ie nin/thf or nin/rng as opposed to the cookie cutter of /war)?

Your rank and highest job didn't matter, only if you knew how to play your current job well?

People who camped NMs 24/7 were doing it because they had horrible luck (ie 0/1243123487 on Leaping Lizzy or something similar)?

People weren't accused of gil buying/selling if that had GOOD gear (as in +1 versions)...

/sigh

I kind of miss the good ol' days...

anyone else?

PS. Post thing that you miss or remember "way back when"

the first time i started playing FFXI, i got my redmage to 14, i felt accomplished, i didnt get farther than that though, the character was deleted and the account closed.

now i look back at that and i see it as a learning experience and how differently things are now. that RDM was only around 1.5 years old now. and how the world of ragnarok has changed. i can no longer play the game I want, i have to play THIER game.

its sad, but yet its what happens to all games.

but i still have it in my heart to continue playing until the time i find it right to leave Vana`diel forever.

and theres so much for me to do in the mean time.

so look back, but also look forward for what is to come, because this might be a time of adversity, but it can only get better if we work to make it better.

Remember when we all to help out to kill those treants late 2003?

O.O NOOOOOOO!!!

i still have nightmares about that moment.

I remember the days when everyone was peacefull and eager to explore...

The days when anyone was welcome in groups regardless of jobs...

The days when help was easy to find and to give....

however, times changed

Some people now think that their lvl dictates their wisdom and power and they forget where they came from and how they got there.

Some people blame everyone and everything else for their own problems instead of looking inward to how they can make the game better.

Some people get caught up in the hype and greed and turn their backs on their friends.

.....but i know this, there are still peps in this game and our server who hold true to whats real and whats right.
And like any other game of this type. Its those people who will be holding this game together in dark times :)

peace
blood

I think actually that would define a large percentage of Ragnarok.
I heard about the treants...didnt you have to kill them so that you could use outpost tele's?
I remember when astral rings were about the same price as LL boots and Emp pin....I didnt have to farm for months to get them either. (200k is easy farming) Bone mining used to be fun and profitable...i didnt have to zone in and out to get more points.
People were alot more flexible with jobs options all that mattered was skill.

What ever happened to experience parties in the maze? I go through there a lot to get to the chasm to farm wind elementals or to go play with the strange apparatus and the only time I see anyone in that zone is if there is about to be a pop of some sort. I remember eagerly getting parties together early on to go fight there before heading to the retina burning dunes. But now, when I break out an early job, it's impossible to get people to go there. They all want to go to the dunes sooner and get in on a power leveling party. :( Maze makers were fun.

I remember maze parties..

They were the best till 15, and after that you could head to Korroloka tunnel. Till 19 and then you could head to qufim.. You can totally skip the dunes, and more experienced parties know that.

Personal best memory was that I bought my jujitsu gi for like 90k and the ochiudo's kote for 520k (still overpriced then) after 2 months of farming.

I also remember when Valkrum dunes wasn't THAT bad...I mean, that people in parties were A LOT more helpful and less "OMG NOOB YOU TR4!N3D TEH G013$!!!!! U R SUXORZS!!!" God, i wanna shoot those people sometimes.

Also, i remember when I got my first job to lvl 18 (red mage) and was able to finish the subjob quest. I was estatic! Now, i see a lot of lvl 20-21 people WITHOUT subs saying "Subjob? It's not necessary!!!!"

Or people with poorly underlvled subs, like lvl 16 whm/ lvl 3 blm, I mean, c'mon!!! Lvling a job to 10 isn't THAT HARD!!!...

I guess people are getting lazier and lazier every day...

A subjob isn't necessary when you are getting powerlevelled through the game and everything is being done for you. :D

As far as the underlevelled subs, I think everyone starting out may have had a bit of that at one time or another.

whm30/blm11 I think I was. o_O But back then /everyone/ had crappy subs. :D I know some other brds that subbed blm to 50-60 even, apparently even some that established a name for themselves. ^_^

Chi I think I was the opposite. I remember catching my subjob up cause cure I wasn't cutting it anymore. But that was back when it wasn't uncommon to get in a party with a war tank and everyone subbing whm to make up for the lack of anyone around to heal.

Remember I started when NAs were all noobs lol Ie. PC release in NA. XD None of us really knew the wonders of the subjob at the time.

Anyway I think I remember you subbing something >_> <_< XD But you were always sweet to everyone and helped everyone out, so I didn't care that much. ^^

I remembered exploring East Ronfaure as a newb War on another char. Discovering that Beastman will jump you if you are dazed at the background...or the Worm that just wiggles as you run past it was truly some of the best experiences an MMO has given me. I also remember that, as a newb, my friends would help me and such since they were much higher lvl than my WMM on my current char. 1.5 years later, I'm now helping them in return since I've went on some leveling frenzy spree. Lol, I loved newb times, great for a grand adventure.

so, i finally visited Jeuno for the first time in a couple of weeks, and found out that the last two pairs of Leaping boots were sold at... ONE MILLION gil... dear god, these greedy players are making me sick...also, it seems that Emperor's Pin has steadily increased to almost the same price tag...

Interestint thing about that was what a person said, or rather shouted... I remember when i got my Leaping boots and emperor pin for 150K... total price!

i wish that was still true...

if anything, SE should make these damn NM drops Rare/ex, but then, what's the point of gil, ya?

me and my ranting....

Ah chi, the dreaded smn/blm experiment. I remember I was in a set with 5 of my friends and we decided since there was a whm in the party and no blm, wth let's give it a try. I also remember the final breaking point of ok this just isn't worth it. But it was fun to see how far that job could be taken as a non mini whm and to see if we were missing anything about it. I still think I'm one of the only people post added avatars who actually attempted to use their spirits in the early levels. :D It was fun and I'm still grateful for my friends who just wanted to try something different so we went ahead and did it. We had some of the more fun main/sub combos ever and I want to say, I remember when you could try that without too many problems.

Doesn't really matter your reason, you were a good person anyway so who cares as long as you had fun. :D Not like it hurt anyone when you did it. ^^

arent you noticing a pattern with AH prices? Its not harder to farm 1mil now then it was to farm 200k then. A gil's value is only 1/5 of what it was back then. Beehive chips were 2k a stack... Now 10k. It doesnt make much difference really, since just about everything has quintipled, including regularly farmed crafting items. And Astral rings would still be pretty cheap if they werent removed from oztroja... less supply, same demand.... I just miss farming NM's without 8 gilsellers surrounding me at all times.. I remember heading to Mee Deggi spawn and no one was there.. But my friends and I were only in our 30's so could only attempt to kill once per two hours... go hundred fists!

When I look back at when I started... I remember my friend's from socom2, and some from real life talking in a private chat on AIM while we watched and were amazed at the live camera feed off of playonline.com..

We all thought we would buy gil (hah we were innocent!) and buy an airship, from somewhere my friends and I thought 1million would start our airship company. I was to be a DRG/thf with Leviathan as my dragon O.O, and my friend wanted to be THF so he could steal gil from passangers.

I was going to catch chocobo's and rent them to people using our airship for a side shop lol...

Back then everyday was great, scale armor at lvl 10 was an accomplishment, lvl 7 sapara was the best sword cause of looks alone...

I loved being a WAR with a sword/shield, it was great.

Me and all my friend's who I started with... Airvash (quit), His sister (quit), AIrmrbojanlges (quit but now is back), Cheleborn (still here), Aircloud (quit), Dynamo (quit several times, back now), Kalhuna (still here), Lloyd (rarely here), and myself (still here), we used to pt and go out to explore, it didnt matter that we were 5 lvls apart, and killing EP's to the higher lvls, we were cool in our bronze armor (except subligars, ewwww), and we had fun..

Now it's all exp exp exp, sub job this, main job that, cookie cutter blah blah...

I just look back, at my best memory... the time my friend Kalhuna, 19rdm no sub at the time, escorted me, lvl 8war no sub, to sandy, from bastok, I felt so accomplished...

meh, sorry for my rant, I rarely post on the boards, and I figured I would post here, cause it brought back memories. :(

I remember the Maze days. I met several of my friends in those pt's (whether alive or laying flat on the ground), Like you said, now everyone seems to be so dam eager to get over to the dunes.

Wow, I was surprised to find this thread on the front page, I thought it died...

Well, with the new update, at least I now have a SOMEWHAT better chance to getting a "Leaping Boot" and "Emperor Hairpin" like item and NOT have to worry about spending gil for them (thank you Rare/ex items)...

Another thing I miss is the awe I had when I saw high-lvl character in AF for the first time.

Funny thing, when I saw my first RDM in full AF armor in San d'Oria, I started to /tell the person, "Where did you get that armor? Where can i get armor like it? How much did it cost you?" and other such questions....

the RDM simply responded with "{I'm sorry.} {I don't understand.}"

my first run-in with AF armor, JP players, and the Auto-translate function, all in the first day of playing the game...
