It's been 23 years since Tim Burton's 'Beetlejuice' was released, but the undead trickster may soon return to our screens.
The prospect of a return for the 'bio-exorcist', who tried to spook the living residents from the home of its ghostly owners (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis), is a mouth-watering one. But we've been here before.
Tim Burton himself had handed an idea about a Hawaii-based sequel to writer Jonathan Gems (of 'Mars Attacks' fame), but the script never made it to the production stage.
Now Deadline are reporting that Warner Bros. have signed up writer/producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith to a two-script deal and that 'Beetlejuice 2' will be one of the projects.
Talking to Deadline, Grahame-Smith said: “We want to make big movies based on big ideas and inspired by the comedies we grew up lovingâ€.
Little more is known about the project, but it could be a reboot that advances the story of the original, rather than a remake of the quirky cult comedy.
It is also unclear whether stars such as Alec Baldwin, who recently returned to NBC comedy series '30 Rock', as well Winona Ryder and Geena Davis would return.
But, having penned 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' and 'Pride And Prejudice And Zombies', both due out next year, we can see Grahame-Smith being a good fit for Burton's beloved ghoul.
