From my DC research, because I still won't read it myself ... Green Lantern takes the cake for absolute insanity. Like Bzzd, Ch'p, and Dkrtzy RRR to name a few.

I meant where J would have gotten the idea that Beast was Nightcrawler's dad. I won't complain about getting comic book plot summaries though. ^_^

I've never bothered to follow the comics so, aside from some inconsistencies with the earlier movies (which I ignored under the notion that this movie was basically a reboot), I had no reason to get all nerd-ragey about canon.

Though it was good times. The two lead actos, who I am too lazy to look up, carried each scene they were in and did a fantastic job. Prof. X was played well as a cocky young adult without the wisdom and weight of experience versus if they tried to just make a young Patrick Stewart. The friendship between the two seemed genuine and both were played with good qualities and faults.

Wasn't as impressed with the slate of bad guys. Kevin Bacon did a pretty good job but his character was never really "believable". I mean, sadistic **** doctor was easy enough to accept but his "modern" goals never really rung true and he felt more like a guy just doin' stuff for the hell of it than anyone driven by some sort of conviction. January Jones could have picked something better than a pseudo-1960s period piece to try and convince me that I wasn't watching Betty Draper in lingerie. Or, you know, maybe if she had some sort of acting range. Who knows. I don't think the others even had speaking parts.

The other mutants were largely okay. Mystique did a good job of conveying her angst that no one was going to want to date a lumpy blue girl unless she disguised herself. Beast was pretty good. Havoc was okay. Angel and Banshee just seemed silly, especially after Angel got her wings sheared in the ending fight. When she sided with Magneto, I just thought "Yay, now you have a girl who can buzz around in small circles and spit golfballs of fire."

Overall though, it was fun, the pacing worked for me and I had a good time throughout. Haven't seen Green Lantern yet but I enjoyed X-Men: FC more than I did Thor.

Fair enough. J told me that Beast was Nightcrawler's father though. Do you know where he might have gotten that idea if Azazel was actually his father?

Impossible, since the blue skin/fur was not Beasts original mutation. Beast was originally short, heavy and ridiculously strong but thick as a brick. The Legacy virus, which killed most mutants it infected, changed a few others. Hank was one of those changed. So although his coloring is similar to Nightcrawlers now, it was not then. Also, of course, Hank does not Bamf! :)

As has been pointed out, it is more or less accepted that every time a comic is translated to a new medium the backstory will be re-written. Comics to novels to cartoons to movies, each has played fast and loose with the back story and even added or removed or merged characters. This is basically an "any time we find it convenient" kinda thing. That said, I see no problem with it. as Stan has said many times, each of the mediums is a new thing. The movies are "based" on the x-men comics, not slaved to them.

All of that said, I found all of them good (except maybe Origins: Wolverine but only because Logan IS my favorite character and I did not like what they changed) and thought First Class was the best of them.

And yes, I have been an X-Men reader/collector for a long time.

I don't have any problem enjoying a movie that ignores the rich history of an established universe, but that doesn't mean there isn't going to be things that I find annoying. I don't believe for a second a perfect movie will ever be created, because said universe is a universe. There is a ton of little things that just doesn't translate over. Personality quirks, side story lines, hell even certain powers just don't do well outside of a comic format. So I'm more than happy to give leeway. However, that doesn't mean that if I see something that is just grossly wrong that I won't be ticked by it. Leech affecting Juggernaut in the third movie was one of those things, the stuff I mentioned in this thread are some. Hell, I was even fine with Sandman in the third Spider-Man movie. Though, in that last example I think he got screwed over in the comics through some unfortunate retcons. Liked him much better as a villain trying to find redemption. And on that mention, Amazing Spider-Man 664: Amazing awesome props to the treatment of Eddie Brock. I'm actually excited about the upcoming Spider Island story arc now.

[Geek]And Beast isn't blue because of the Legacy Virus. He did it to himself after he left the X-Men and joined the Avengers. So, in part, First Class was right about that, just the technique and timing is off.[/Geek]
