I think you're right, Al, about it being an acquired taste. Anime didn't really hit our country until well after I was above the cartoon age (at least kid's cartoons) which is where I'm guessing most people get their initial dose these days. I still watch a lot of cartoons, but mostly "adult" ones with humor in them, like Family Guy or The Simpsons.
The Street Fighter video was a good example. I've played Street Fighter a couple of times and I had absolutely no idea what was going on, except I think someone deflected some kind of super attack and returned the favor, or something, right?
Didn't know Avatar wasn't anime, though it might explain why I liked it.
Anyway, about the dB comment, it probably has to do with my origin. Our language is fairly flat and even when people get upset, they sound bored. The voices in anime seem to alternate between almost whispers to very high notes and it switches mid-sentence sometimes. Guess I should sub it and run with a lower volume setting.
