Stephen King - Under the Dome (spoilers!)Follow

It's a slow day on the forum, might as well start another thread about King!

So, anyone worked their way through "Under the Dome" yet? I know I haven't and I'm not sure I ever will. I went all out this time, I got the limited edition from the US, unfortunately they didn't ship the signed version outside the US or I would have gotten that one instead, I tried to avoid spoilers (but then the Belgian press decided to spoil it, heck the Dutch version wasn't even out before they told that the Dome was an alien thing, causing the village to fracture and two sides to fight each other, and no, this was not mentioned in any synopsis I read before the publication) and then the book arrived.

Now I just do not feel any interest in continuing the book, I read well over a 100 pages but I'm just sick of it. Where's the time King wrote a book about strange or horrific things happening to fairly normal characters? Sure, none of them really were normal but they didn't feel like freaks or idiots, not all of them anyway. He goes out of his way to set a detailed character from the moment a new character enters the story, it's just plain boring because most of them he's already written more than once even in previous books, all are bland and stereotypical, the mere 'position' in their town (chief of police or mayor or the likes I mean) already makes it clear what that person is going to do and what side he's going to take. I used to enjoy his verbosity, a major criticism for a lot of people over the years, but this time it's annoying.

It's easy to rant though, and I'm sure there are lots of people who do enjoy his more recent books, but I'm out. I'm not getting any new King books, not even to complete the collection or they'ld have to be secondhand.

And who knows, perhaps if others post here and say I really should keep going and it gets better, I might continue.
