Both of these series finished their seasons recently, and aside from FMA:B these are the only finite series I watched this season.

Darker than Black: Ryūsei no Gemini
A very different approach to the universe than the first season. DTB1 captured my interest for its unusual character powers, the strange obeisances, somewhat realistic abilities (Hei doesn't bright balls or beams of electricity, he conducts it invisibly through mediums), and odd universe. The characters were above par in originality and personality. Most of season 1 was an introduction to the DTB world. S2 seems almost like a side story. The protagonist is changed to Suou, and the first hint that something was different about this season was the transformation-like-sequence of summoning her weapon. The story lulls for a bit in the middle, but near the end quickly becomes ever stranger. I'm not entirely certain what all is occurring, but my interest for the next season is held.

Thumbs up.

Nyan Koi!
I was hoping for a School Rumble or Toradora! That romance would be a key part of the plot, but crazy antics would be the main driver for the story. Sadly the catch of Nyan Koi! (that the main character is cursed and can converse with cats) is little more than superfluous. The setup is bland, the characters are bland, the story is bland, and the comedy falls flat. The first 7 episodes lack any thought about narrative. Each one essentially is a character introduction episode, one by one. Then there is some very small character development and the series coasts. Every lead female has some sort of attraction to the only prominent male in teh series, the main character. They are all uninteresting and unadorned archetypes. Nyan Koi! offers nothing that hasn't been done better elsewhere.

Thumbs down.

Anyone else watching any of the series that started this season? I was wondering how letter bee and kuchu buranko turned out.

I liked the first season of Darker than Black, and am currently downloading season two. Can't wait to watch it tomorrow :D

It helps that Tsukiakari no Michishirube is one of my favorite OP songs Smiley: thumbsup

Agree totally with your DTB wrap up. Nyan Koi! I haven't managed to watch yet, I was holding back on it to watch the whole season in one go.
