I don't really have any anime to watch as of now and was hoping some of you guys could recommend something to me. Here are some things that I've watched to give an idea of what I like.

Anyone have anything good they would like to tell me about?

I really like Black Cat, Elemental Gelade (Erementar Gerad) and Rosario + Vampire myself (Season 1, season 2 should have been denied existence but i've finished it anyways). Chaos;Head wasn't half bad either, it's short and a bit of a mindf***, especially at the beginning.

One of the longer ones, but my personal favorite is D.Gray Man, has action, cool characters with character development and the story is pretty fast-paced. I'd recommend giving it a shot. It follows the manga very closely but ends at a point where the manga continues. Sadly, after a while the mangas seemed a little rushed and the story is now near-impossible to keep up with. I had to re-read the last three chapters just to find out what the heck was going on and which new character was which. If you're only interested in the anime, however, this'll be of very little to no concern to you.

Oh, and I see Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood isn't on there. It's even better than the first series in my opinion. It's still airing, though.

Give Baccano! a shot, it's a neatly packed story in 15 episodes.
Has a nice mix of action, comedy, drama and an interesting story.

I wish I could offer more suggestions, but I'm more into the romance/comedy series Smiley: tongue

About five or six episodes into the first season, I turned to my roommates and said "Watch, they're gonna crucify this kid before the end of the season."

Sure enough....

Still, was excellent. Haven't watched season 2 yet.

DKZ: You should move GTO off of your "On Hold" list and watch it. Srsly loev that one.

Also, you might try out Berserk. Claymore as well. And perhaps 12 Kingdoms. And perhaps maybe Martian Successor Nadesico. If I think of any more that seem to go with your list there, I'll suggest em, though most of my anime viewing would probably be incompatible with your apparent interests.

Gurren Lagann was the universe's way of cleansing the scars given to us by Neon Genesis. It was like a giant robot sized hug that said "everything's gonna be okay."

Edit: Thanks to this thread, I spent the last couple hours creating and populating an anime list. I have the horrible feeling I'm missing something. Smiley: frown

I liked NGE.. it's still one of my favorite animes. <.<; Plus, it made way for some very, very, very good doujin remakes.

Is season 2 based on the second series of manga? I actually am really liking Rosario + Vampire II so far the manga goes... it's basically exactly what the first series was, but taken to extremes. More graphic fan service, better fights, more hilarious puns and jokes.

From the comments I've heard in this thread, I'm thinking it's not.

As for the OP, I think you would really enjoy GTO. Also, it might sound strange, but the Live Action version of it is pretty spectacular as well. I mean, it's not actually anime, but it really is good. If you just want anime though, that's fine too.

Don't get me wrong, I liked it too. But the ending is the stuff fetal position + crying is made of.

I really should check out the live action series, despite how awful the movie was.

Oh Gosh, yeah, the movie was terrible. That was the one with "Canada Land," right? UGH.

Yeah, skip the movie, watch the series. Apparently the final episode is the most watched TV show episode ever in the history of Japan.

Here are some recommendations for you DKZ

Stuff similar to what you've seen before:
Code Geass - High on action and a fast paced plot.
Eureka Seven - Shounen plot that is partially deconstructed. More mecha and action.
Claymore - Dark fantasy, plenty of action.
Akagi - based on a manga by the same author of Kaiji, which I saw you liked. Akagi is Kaiji if Kaiji were badass. Akagi is set primarily in the world of mahjong gambling.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - You liked FMA, so you'll probably like FMA that follows the manga plot. The beginning might be tedious to work back through, but it picks up once you get into new materiel.

Stuff different than what you've seen before:
Spice and Wolf (and the sequel) - A drama and romance series primarily about economics? They make it work.
Baccano! - A small amount of action, slightly dark story, and complex narrative element.
Juuni Kokuki - It starts weak, appearing to be a cliche action fantasy starring a girl, but it becomes much more.
Kemonozume - If the unique art style doesn't bother you, then you're in a for a gritty and surreal love story.
Escaflowne - A very early attempt at blending shounen and shoujo themes; Escaflowne is a fantasy mecha. Because it was originally planned to be aroudn 52 episodes and then later curtailed the story feels much more dense and epic. Dilandau is one of my favorite anime characters.

I broke the list into two groups because I usually like to give people options to expand their retinue and explore new genres. The top list are shows that you will almost certainly like. The bottom list contains shows that will offer something new to your palette, but you might find it distasteful (though I tried to pick ones you had a good chance of enjoying).

Check out my anime list for more recommendations.

Accept that it has its own style and shoves it down your throat. Accept it like a man.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone! I've started watching Baccano! and I really enjoy it so far.

I've actually seen a decent amount of Akagi before, but the reason why I dropped it was because while what he was doing seemed awesome, I realized I actually had no idea what was really going on cause I'm totally clueless on how to play mahjong.

Also, the only reason why GTO is on hold is because when I was watching it I had leave town for quite some time (To a place with no internet. Scary.) and when I got back I totally forgot what episode I was on. I do remember being on the episode when Onizuka saves a girl from a explosion on a movie set because the building that was being blown up was her school and she was trying to get a piano. So, if anyone has any clues on what episode that is, that would be great.

Episode 22: The Art of Demolition.

The next one after that is funny as hell.

This is the one I called 12 Kingdoms, and Allegory's description is spot on.

Oddly enough, when I picture posters from here in my head, my image of you always kinda reminds me of Dilandau. Smiley: laugh

As far as I read, it doesn't follow the manga at all. Just Kokoa gets introduced. No real story, just fan service. Only the final two episodes are somewhat okay.

Which ending are we talking about? Because the last two episodes of the series, the whole instrumentality project, I don't acknowledge as an ending. End of Evangelion ftw. (Although I have to admit there was a wrathful crunching feeling in my stomach when it ended.)

Also, I have to mention needless again.. because the ending (as in openings and endings) is ridiculous. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOv2JiwF4i0
