One Manga has started releasing high quality scans of this old classic.

It is a ridiculously cute parody of Final Fantasy and other early RPGs. The "hero" is basically forced into it by his obsessed parents (he wanted to be a mage), the mage can't get any of her spells right, and their provisions include useless things like "pills that make you not be hungry any more" (because they're salty and bitter and awful.)

An anime was released for it as well, in the 80s, but I don't think it's been licensed or remastered yet.

Quite cute and good for some light hearted reading.

I picked up a subbed version of the anime at Otakon one year, after the second episode they didn't even bother trying to match the words to the actions. It was like someone created a subtitling program using the formula for dubbing a Kung Fu flick.

I liked the fansubs. There's a second season as well. I'd probably read the manga if ... well, I guess if I felt like it is the only way to say it. Not sure why I haven't beyond that. I digress, though, the animes were entertaining.
