Well for those that don't know, they are remaking The Karate Kid.

The kid will be played by Will Smith's son and the Miyagi character will be played by Jackie Chan.

Oh and it's taking place in China...

I'll just have to go right ahead and put that on the list of movies to never watch.

Why? Why do they insist on desecrating my beloved childhood movies?

... Sad thing is, I might end up seeing it anyway, depending on how much Jackie Chan's actually in it. :(

Crap. That's just WRONG.

Yeah, the original one is badly acted and cheesy, but it was everything an 80s underdog-makes-good inspirational movie was supposed to be, complete with power ballads and Pat Morita's ineffable charm. It's a slice of my childhood, and it needs to be left the hell alone.

This is just gonna be chock full o' fail.

Just the other day I was wondering if anyone would bother trying to make a live action version of Ranma 1/2.

It'd at least be something different rather than a rehash of a movie that was already perfect the first go round.

Didn't we already have, "The Next Karate Kid" with a girl, too?

This thing with Jaden Smith is a remake as opposed to a sequel. As much as I like Jackie Chan, I just can't imagine this is going to be any good...

I could imagine it being decent to someone who has never seen the first one, but as a remake, I think it's gonna be awful to those of us who have seen the original.

In the first Karate Kid, Miyagi doesn't do much but teach Daniel and cheer him on. Miyagi doesn't kick any a$$ until the third movie (my favorite, BTW, solely because of the fight scene with Miyagi and the Cobra Kai guys). I can't help but think they'll have to add more Miyagi fights, what with casting Jackie Chan in the role and all...

Edit: My point is partly moot. I totally forgot about Miyagi saving Daniel from the Cobra Kai students wearing the skeleton costumes.

D'oh. :(

I can't stand Jaden Smith so that is enough reason to not watch it IMO.

Not a big fan of Jackie Chan and can't see him in the role of the calm and quiet Miyagi.

Jaden Smith... well, can't really comment on his performance. He did star in that When The Earth Stood Still or whatever it was, right? And his hair, lately, seems... grand.

As much as I loved the original (way back when, now I just cringe at the cheese), I have to say the trailer is interesting enough for me to watch the remake.

I still don't like what they put in instead of wax on/wax off, though.

The play on the catching-the-fly-with-chopsticks scene, however, was full of win.

I would totally pay to see Jackie Chan beat up children.
