And then, I ****.

Spice & Wolf 2 began airing in July. I'm absolutely torn by my desire to immerse myself yet again in the series and wanting to wait until the second season completes so that I may properly enjoy it at my own pace. I've been waiting with such great eagerness for Spice & Wolf 2. I have high expectations, and will be quite depressed if it happens to disappoint. I fear I'm building the series up far to much to meet my own expectations.

How bout a recap of Spice & Wolf 1 for those of us who have never seen it before?

Spice and Wolf is a 12 episode anime series based on a light novel series of the same name. The story focuses primarily on Kraft, a travelling merchant, and Holo, a harvest deity, and their journeys throughout the land trading wares. The story takes place in a fantasy setting that is approximately 18th century Europe. Rather than focusing on knights, dragons, or magic, Spice & Wolf focuses on trade and economics.

It seems interesting. Of course, the whole furry aspects + 25 year old falls for 15 year old is kinda... offsetting. I think I'll check it out though, and write how I think it goes here.

But Holo is totally seven hundred years old.

I do love that the first quote in that article is from Buffy, and I remember watching that episode!

I only watched the first five or so episodes because I knew it would be short and I liked it enough I didn't want to have my heart broken by a rushed ending...I had no idea there was going to be a second season. I may have to go and finish up the first one now. Smiley: grin

As for the apple thing...I thought it was adorable, but then, my hubby loves apples. We were still dating when I was watching the first season, and when I dragged him out to buy some healthy food (he'd been living off of ritz crackers and peanut butter) and sent him off to get a couple apples while I picked out veggies and bread, he came back with two huge bags of apples.... xD

Edit: I'm guessing the names vary by subbing group? I seem to remember Craft and Horo, not Kraft and Holo.

Common in transcribing without any references. Obviously C and K sound alike. And of course the whole Japanese R-L thing.

Officially it is Holo, but most fansub groups translated it as Horo.

Is it a weekly?

I just finished season 1 and I really enjoyed it. Just wondering how long I'll have to wait for season 2 to be complete.

Edit: Never mind I found the answer. Episode 6 is airing on Thursday.

I just finished reading the manga; it seems like a really good series! Although only 12 chapters were available, it really sucked me in; and it was a lot more interesting than your standard fantasy manga. I just wish there was more; I'll need to watch the anime, as I get the impression the series is a LOT longer than the manga was.

That said, underage furry freaks me out, and Horo seems to like to get naked a lot.

I believe the manga is based on the anime, but I know the anime is based on the light novels. The light novels will be furthest along in the story.

In the first few episodes, yes, but after that her nudity is quite rare. The scenes are meant to convey here otherworldly nature and were never intended as any type of fan service--she has barbie doll anatomy anyway.

Was still kind of a shock when it popped up at work; wasn't expecting that Smiley: laugh I agree it wasn't for its sexual nature, but still unexpected.

Edit: I can use smileys now!

Last Exile has been ok... I haven't watched much because it was a me + gf thing and she was slow to get into it. We did watch a couple more episodes last night though so I think we're picking it back up.

After marathoning the first season yesterday (and a couple episodes today to finish it), I really want to get going on the second season now... but it will be quite sad when I then get caught up and can't finish it Smiley: frown.

Caught up now. Very glad that the last episode ended the first story string, or I would have been very sad for the next week Smiley: frown.

Yea, very glad I didn't end up in that situation. I do think that I'm going to wait for the rest of the season to finish before I continue though, so it doesn't happen to me Smiley: tongue.

So, having watched all of Spice and Wlf 2 in a day (and glad I did wait to watch it all at once rather than week by week), I can say that overall the second season is not as good as the first, though still very enjoyable.

There is somewhat less focus on economic machinations and more time spent on developing Holo's and Craft's relationship. Climaxes seem to have less amplitude as well. The feeling I got was that Season 1 was young, energetic, perky, and season to is matured, blended, and comfortable.

Is there a free manga source for these? I read the first series, and while I wouldn't mind watching the second season, I'd probably have to watch the first season as well just to see what the differences were. I did like it though, so it would be nice to find!
