So saw it twice in the cinema with 3-D. It lived down to my plot expectations, and up to and beyond my visual expectations. If I were leaving my house more at the moment I would go see this a couple more times in the cinema, because it just gives me happy thrills and chills in all the rainforest sequences, especially at night, where things glow like crazy beautiful underwater reefs. Also has one of the best cinematic explosions I've ever seen too. Smiley: grin

Why are you talking about it in theaters when it just came out on DvD? =/

Why are you responding to this thread like it isn't a necro?

Actually, yea, that's a better question. Sorry.

Get with the program Ari! At least acknowledge that it's a necro and not pretend like you're just continuing a conversation =P.

Sorry, Australian-American cinema release lag or something. I just saw it in the cinema for the second time a couple weeks ago. I wouldn't be surprised if it's still in the cinemas here, it has an awfully long running.

As for necroposting, it ain't necro if it's still on the front page, and at 100 tpp, this ain't necro Smiley: tongue

Well, wasn't Taken released on DVD in Australia before it even came out in theaters in the US? (Even before it was advertised on TV, if I remember right).

It's not my fault this is a slow moving forum. Look, I even made it move faster by actually posting here!

I am so going to buy the Avatar DVD. rowr. Or whatever that little screamy thing that Mulan-smurfette does when she's riding her wingy thing.

And yeah, we used to get EVERYTHING a minimum of half a year behind you guys, and often years later if it was a TV series. The internet changed that a lot.

Avatar without a fifty foot screen and no 3D doesn't seem very appealing to me at all.

Pretty sure they have a way to make it 3-D even on ordinary TV screens, as long as you have the cinema glasses.

Also: Big screen TV.

Old 3d, sure. Avatar's "new" 3D; no. You need to buy a 3d blue ray player as well as a 3d capable TV. Oh & the glasses will cost you almost $150 a piece if you want more than two.

Yikes! But thanks for the info.

Guess I won't have 3-D Avatar at home. Smiley: cry

Maybe they are still showing it at the cinema!

I never got to see it in the cinema, but I couldn't help myself and bought it on DVD earlier today. Main reason I didn't get to see it in the cinema was due to time restraints, but probably also negative hype, or whatever. The whole "creator of Titanic" promotion thing along with the trailer being mediocre (compared to the actual product), just sort of made me stubborn.

It's actually one of the better movies I've seen this year. Definitely the best sci-fi movie so far.

It did leave me with an odd sense of awkwardness as I felt attracted to the female lead character. A woman who happens to be nine feet tall with blue skin, cat ears and a tail. Her being semi-naked throughout the 160 minute film might have had something to do with it as well.

In all seriousness, though, it's a good movie. It pulls a lot of stuff from other movies, which is probably why it hit home base for so many people. I mean, I recognized themes from Matrix, Star Wars, Spirits Within and even Tarzan.

Looking forward to the sequels, though it saddens me that Cameron has mentioned that "if [he] was to begin production of Avatar 2 tomorrow, it would still be 3 years away."

I want more tall, slender women with feline traits and blue skin, dammit!

My ultra-conservative cousin just saw it this weekend and posted a "1 out of 5 stars" rating for it. Waiting to hear why; guessing it'll be similar to Varus' critique :-P

Then again, she rated "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children" a 1/2 star. I'm guessing she just cares naught for graphics.

Hahaha, got my answer:
Quote:
I rated it 1 star because flixter doesn't have a -1. I'm sick of the Hollywood brainwashing agenda. I wonder what happened to the Hollywood that made those awesome WWII movies, you know the Hollywood that wasn't ashamed to be American. The Hollywood that had class and style but everything wasn't about how many kids they order from Africa or how many tree hugger blue dreams they made in a year. So until they keep trying to make me a communist I'll be rating them low.

Yeah, she's nuts. My family is pretty evenly split on crazies or sane folks. I like to think that my immediate family is in the sane category.

Oh, living in harmony with nature equals communism. It all makes sense now! Smiley: lol

While I agree that Mr Cameron snuck in some environmental "propaganda" in Avatar, I don't think it was too much and certainly not more than others have done in other forms of art. Clearly the movie had a message and I felt that it got it across pretty well. It's sort of impossible to do a movie about someone or something being treated unfairly only to come out victorious in the end, without it containing some kind of message.

You should send American History X to your cousin. I'm sure she'd implode from the "communist" propaganda in that one. Smiley: lol
