I liked the first half of the episode, especially Sam's "sacred cow".

Eh... I thought it was a bit too obvious. I was hoping that Sookie would be the vessel, not Sam, and we'd learn more about her family.

The latter half wasn't great, but I enjoyed the stuff about Sam's past & it got me a little bit excited about the promise of Werewolves in the next season.

The second half was a bit better IMO, because the first half ending so quickly! I had hoped for more twists and turns. I did enjoy the Mountain Dew girls scene. That was pretty funny. Sam remains one of my favorite characters, and I agree, setting up him discovering his past next season is good.

The stuff that happened with Jessica was a change of pace from the "goody-goody" she was becoming.

Agreed.

I could care less about Eggs (or Ecks? WTF was his name?), but it remains to be seen if what happened to Bill at the end will be interesting at all.

His name is Eggs, because his first name is actually Benedict (mmmm, Eggs benedict!). I thought I was being clever with the new nickname I gave him Smiley: laugh. And Bill being taken has some good potential. Part of me thinks it could be Leonora, or the Fellowship, or even Eric, since he promised the queen to "take care of him."

Biggest gripe: Not enough Eric.

Agreed. He and Sam are my favorite characters (and I suppose Lafayette is as well).

There's 9 Sookie Stackhouse books out now. They've already deviated so much from the books that who knows how they'll handle future series?

But at least one of the books has Eric as its prime focus throughout, and it's too good a storyline for them to pass up, I hope.

Must sit on hands and not give out spoilers!

I love Trueblood. However, I'm not in it for the main characters. They're fine and all, but the side characters are nearly always more interesting. Lafayette and Eric are my favorites.

I hate the actress who plays Sookie, she just plays her terrible. But hooray for Lafayette and Eric I love them!!

You realize that actress won an Academy Award at the age of 11, right?

I don't find Sookie terribly interesting as a character, in either the show or the books, but I have no issues with how Anna Paquin portrays her.

Doesn't change the fact I still think she portrays Sookie terribly. Her character in the books is a strong woman but in the show she comes across as a ditzy Blonde.
Just because she won awards at 11 doesn't mean her acting in everything will be a academy award winning performance.

The character on the show is WRITTEN as a ditzy blond. The actress has no control over that.

I tried reading the books, but couldn't get more than a few chapters in because Sookie's first-person view INFURIATED me. You think she's ditzy in the show? I thought she was the biggest ditz, ever, in the books.

Like, one second she's thinking about vampires and the next she's thinking about some girl's legs. If I was told to guess the age of the character without knowing anything, I would've thought the waitressing job was an after-school thing for a 15 year old.

Plus, she gets way less ditzy in the show as the series goes on and she begins to see the world for what it really is, rather than the small-town, "churches are all good and people can just love each other" view.

That said, I thought the scene where she was eating the pecan pie after the funeral to be one of the most powerful I have EVER seen in a television show. I thought Paquin was perfect.

I can't wait for the third season. I hated Eggs, but I feel bad for Tara. And I think not killing Lafayette was an AWESOME choice, because he's a great character.

I agree. Not a show I ever expected to move me to tears, but that scene did it. Paquin is a powerful actress. Always has been.

Yeah, Lafayette pretty much rocks. I was actually really hoping Eric would take him up on his offer to become a badass vampire. Black, flamboyantly homosexual, AND undead in the deep south? That would be fun to see.

The stuff Tara has been through the past couple seasons, and particularly the loss of Eggs, could go a long way to explaining why the character ends up in some of the situations she does in the books, should they begin to adhere to the books more closely with her character.
