I liked The Spirits Within.

Even better than Advent Children.

Yeah, I liked them both.

While Spirit's Within didn't really seem to have anything to do with Final Fantasy, by itself it was a very good movie. It set the bar high as far as technical merit, but Square's obsession to make the animation as realistic as possible led to it's downfall. Not in quality, but as far as money spent versus returns at the box office. It only bombed financially. That alone doesn't make the movie suck, they just spent too much money making it look that good.

Advent Children appealed to the same people that think emo's with spiky hair and overly huge sword (compensating for something?) are still cool. To a large extent, Advent Children was very obvious. They seemed to try to hard to lead up to the inevitable finale with Cloud and Sephiroth then attempt to kill Cloud off at the end. That and the teasing with Aerith (get over her Cloud). Did I hate it? No, it may seem so, but Advent Children is good eye candy and a nice way to be entertained. It's not Shakespeare and it didn't have to be. I just wonder how long til we see a FFVII-2.

Spirits Within wasn't an inherently bad movie. It just pissed off a lot of people because it had the FF name attached to it for no reason other than to get fanboys who wouldn't otherwise see it to go see it. Taken on it's own it wasn't a bad movie. Not a very good movie either, but not a bad one.

Advent Children could have been really good except that they put the coolest scene in the movie about 20 minutes in. Once you watch that fight in the church you've seen the best the movie has to offer and may as well stop watching.

Nah, I enjoyed the finale more myself. It's good music and a fun villain.

Movies like Spirits Within are why my friends no longer believe me when I say a movie isn't bad. I don't know anyone who likes it but I enjoyed it. (mind you, they stopped believing me after Dungeons and Dragons though)
