Love Hina.

Yes, I said it. It always makes me laugh, but the manga is way better. I didn't care for the Negima! anime series though... probably because Asuna's eyes freaked me out, and it completely deviates from the manga (and takes out all the fan service). The manga itself seems to drag. Overall, not thrilled; Love Hina remains my favorite Ken Akamatsu series.

I also really liked Yakitate Japan! That anime makes me so hungry. The second season was a little slow, but the third actually got pretty good again.

Yakitate! Japan was an amazing series. I still read the Negima manga (and watched the anime, which I agree was not as good), although it's true that it does tend to drag on a little. I also prefer the Love Hina manga to the anime, although I haven't seen much of the anime.

Yeah, I still buy every issue of the Negima series (hell, I have like 20 of them, might as well :-P). It just annoys me that the story goes sooo slowly, because it's so addicting. The next (or newest at this point? Haven't looked for it lately) looks like it'll kick the story back into the forefront again. FINALLY! Since the focus changed, I've been living for the story. The "powering up" part for the last 10 issues is a big yawn to me. The first 10 were a lot like Love Hina, which I really liked. As soon as they get back to the story I'll be very happy.

I do find it interesting, if you read the Love Hina manga, it references the anime. For example, Mei (Naru's sister) shows up with no explanation in the last issue at the wedding. They reference "that creepy doll in the basement" (which is an anime episode but never shows up in the manga at all). The only part of the series that disappointed me was the second half of the final book. Adding in the new girl to put everything in perspective just felt rushed and... blah. It was nice to see everyone grown up, though.

Gah, I have a mad urge to read all of Love Hina again! Thanks Vataro :-P

Hmm. Where are you at in Negima? I read scans online so I'm not sure if we're at the same place Smiley: tongue.

Right now they just got into the Magical Realm, and Maki and her friends followed Negi's group. I think it's volume 21. The preview for the next book (which unfortunately has Japanese characters) has Negi getting seriously injured by the white-haired boy.

There's simply way too many good titles out there to choose just one.
As such, I'm gunna "cheat" and just say Gundam as (with the exception of the SD cr@p) I've yet to be disappointed with any of them. Overall, I prefer the Universal Century mostly because of the continuity and it feels/is the heart of the Gundam franchise. Based on what I've seen (unfortunately not ZZ Gundam or V Gundam) I'd say Gundam 0083 and Char's Counterattack are my favourite within this "universe".
Of the "alternate universe" series though...
I found Gundam X to be quite enjoyable and am still surprised it hasn't been released over here yet. Haven't seen Turn A Gundam though it looks... interesting.
Gundam Wing was fun though the mecha "upgrades" in Endless Waltz were much more enjoyable. Story-wise though... probably going to have to go with G Gundam for originality and... Gundam Seed for overall look and feel in addition to mecha/types, character development & interaction, and a story arc that reminded me of something from the Universal Century. Unfortunately haven't seen Destiny or 00 to have an opinion on those yet.

Other than that...
Angel Sanctuary is LOVE and...
X the Movie then X the TV series to wrap up my "top 4...ish"
:p

Edit: Correction, "Neon Genesis Evangelion" is tied for first with Angel Sanctuary. Gundam is just an obsession in comparison. lol

Ah, yea. Stuff starts happening to be sure. I'm probably about 10-15 issues ahead of you then I guess.

The fact that there are people who think Evangelion is one of the best animes baffles me to this day. It's not a BAD series, but there isn't anything good about it either. Nonsensical psychological and religious references are not a substitute for an actual plot.

I tried to explain this in my post about why Evangelion is my favorite series. Every criticism you could reasonably make about the series is true. Evangelion is not a good series, but rather simultaneously very good and bad. Even if many of the blatantly metaphorical elements were originally cosmetic additions they still work. Even if the writers were ************ their way through the script there is still a consistent idea and meaning behind their madness.

I had no problem seeing the actual plot.. did you by chance only watch episodes 1-26 and think you were done or something? (And even then before the screwed up wtf-ness of episodes 25-26 it was still easy to see the plot.)

It makes a hell of a lot more sense than paranoia agent. Smiley: nod

Paranoia Agent was a bit weird but still pretty good. I thought the episode where the 3 ppl formed a pack to try to kill themselves a total wtf episode due to the ending... that series really kind of messed with my head a bit but I'd watch it again lol.

Right now I'm really digging Soul Eater, though it's sad that the anime is going to end in the next 5 episodes, but there's still the manga.

There is no Lil' Slugger. He is a shared escapist fantasy. Tsukiko original invents him to escape the deadline pressure of having to invent the next hit cute creature after previously creating Maromi. Her story is publicized and other people begin using Lil' Slugger as an excuse to escape their problems as well. As the lie builds the delusion becomes stronger and stronger. Maromi is also part of the escapist lie swallowing up the town, as it is a cute toy, a distraction that people focus on instead of their problems. Tsukiko is able to overcome all of this by facing accepting her circumstances (in admitting that it was her fault that Maromi died) rather than continue to lie to others and delude herself.

Cool, now I don't have to watch it. Thanks! <3

Ghost In The Shell (2nd Gig especially)

Then CowBoy Bepop

But seriously how could none of you mention FLCL????!

The one series that makes little to no sense and still manages to enthrall you with its simplicity. Pitty it was only 6 episodes long.

(Just my 2cents but I believe the show was made as a visual representation of the music by The Pillows, which makes up all of the soundtrack. Kind of like how Interstellar 5555 was a visual representation for Daft Punks music.)

Oh thank god the last reply in the thread finally mentioned FLCL.

Azumanga Daioh is an old favorite of mine for having a cute show covering for a dark sense of humor.

JUST. ONE. MORE. EPISODE!

Enki FTMFW!

I want to know what happens to Taiki though...

That's my favorite, but I also really liked Solty Rei and most of Ramna 1/2 (pretty much everything but the tea ceremony fillers...) I'd like to see more Dominion Tank Police, but I've only seen like 2-3 episodes. (The Puma Twins are HOT.) Oh, and Gunslinger Girl. I know these aren't quite the same since they are American-made, but I liked Avatar and Metalocalpypse (though I only saw the first season of Metalocalpypse and I guess it's more like a western cartoon than it is like any of those others except Ranma 1/2). I also liked FATE Stay/Night, but the game was much better... (I've only played through two of the three storylines), the anime kinda mashed stuff together from all three storylines, so it didn't work as well as it could have.

Seriously, this thread got along this far and nobody mentions "Death Note"? Granted the series would have been much better if episode 26 had been the last one, but it's still a hell of a good series.
