Yeah, so, been re-reading the series, since I always get to the back I'm on now (Faith of the Fallen) and give up. I did make it through the first 30ish pages of The Pillars of Creation.

But this time I am determined to finish the series, no matter how painful certain parts of the story may be or how hard they are mashed down your throat with a mallet. :)

I do have a point here...oh yeah.

I'd forgotten the books hold so much adult content, and while it's not really an issue for me, I guess the first time I read them I kinda didn't notice!

Have you ever been reading a series and then out of no where comes some content of an adultish nature that you thought was not really a necessary part of the story?

I'm trying to decide if I'm enjoying the romance novelish part of the series, or if I'll avoid books with that type of content in the future.

Oh right, Terry Goodkind.

I read one of his once (It was probably Wizard's First Rule) when I was a teenager, and I didn't like it. Usually if I didn't like a book back then I'm even LESS likely to like it now, so I usually steer clear. There's a whole swag of stuff I loved as a teenager that I tried re-reading as an adult and discovered that the books were, in fact, awful.

I wonder if I should give Terry Goodkind another try? What threw me when I re-read as an adult some of the books I read as a young child and young teenager is that I was CERTAIN I hadn't gotten some of the adult concepts in the book when I was younger (no, not the sex, that was self-explanatory. I mean, some of the social, economic, political ramifications of events for the central character, that gave the book it's structure and plot.) I remembered reading all of the book at that early age, I remembered liking it. But I was sure as H*ll I hadn't GOTTEN what was going on. So what was I getting out of it back then? I don't know.

I've read some FANTASTIC books that don't have any happy love stories or sex scenes in it. But to be honest, if I'm reading for easy pleasure, and not to be swept away by literature, I will usually enjoy a book more if it's got a finally happy central relationship, or some raunchy sex in it, no matter what the genre of book it is.

I assume you're referring to the apple in the tent scene from the first book ;3

I think most people don't mind reading up to FotF (easily the best book in the series) and then you walk into Pillars of Creation & Naked Empire and want to burn the books or something. I really didn't find it too bad, then again I pretty much gobble up whatever books I can find. I think the last three books of the series were pretty good... besides the points where they start going into really technical magic stuff. Just one warning though... if you dislike deus ex machina endings then you're going to hate the end of the final book.

As for your question, the only moment I can think of that stands out for me would be in the Song of Ice and Fire series, where Daenerys starts to get herself off, and her handmaid suddenly shows up and helps her...

Yea... the only reason I can see for that is showing the relationship between the two... but it really didn't need to be done out of the blue like that =P
