The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe

Completely forgot this for some reason. It is indeed epic and well worth the initial struggle.

I recently read Mockingbird by Walter Tevis and Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan. The first is semi-dystopian sci-fi and the latter kind of noir sci-fi. I'd recommend both. ^^

I don't think I could pick one book, but I just gave away bags full of books recently and I can tell you the authors I kept:

Stephen King
Robert Jordan
Anne Rice
Tolkien
Terry Brooks

Books I kept:
Sevenwaters Trilogy
Black Jewels Trilogy
Mary Stewart's Merlin Trilogy
Hitchhiker series
Chronical's of the Unbeliever (original 6 books)
Kushiel's Legacy series

I also really enjoyed the Outlander series up until the last one, A Breath of Snow and Ashes. I can't seem to get into it.

I'd have to say my favorite series was the Death Gate series by Margaret Wiess and Tracey Hickman. It really is what got me started reading fantasy.

From there i went on to read other Authors works such as : David Eddings, Terry Brooks, Salvatore, tried to read McCaffrey(sp?) but didn't really get into her style of writing.

I Loved Angels&Demons and The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. The Da Vinci Code movie does not stand up to anything close to the book, but what book to Movie movie does?

I am also enjoying the Left Behind series. I'm currently on the fifth book, Apollyon and I hear there is a TON of action in the rest of the series. Can't wait to read those.

Seriously though has anyone read any of the Vampire Earth series? Everyone I talk to, nobody knows what the hell I'm talking about. Shut up Cami.

Could we get a little more information on those books? Just by the name it sounds interesting.

There's six books in the series now I believe. The story follows the main protagonist throughout the Earth that has been taken over by vampire like aliens. The planet has basically reverted back into the old west almost. There's a resistance movement fighting the vampires, but the vast majority of people side with them.

I'd recommend Guy Gavriel Kay, he's a decent enough author. Check out Tigana and Last Light of the Sun, but avoid his first series The Fionavar Tapestry unless you just LOVE Deus Ex Machina.

It's really that bad. There's no real danger, at any point through the whole book. Bah humbug.

Also, Laura Resnik is a wonderful author, she wrote a trilogy that started with In Legend Born. It's a very unique world, with memorable characters and a rich, compelling story.

I also just finished The Subtle Knife, the second book in the His Dark Materials trilogy, which starts with The Golden Compass (or The Northern Lights if you're in the UK). Very fun, can't wait to read the third book and see where this all goes.

According to Wikipedia:

In an interview released on October 30, 2007, he revealed that the book was so large that it would need to be published in two volumes. Book 3 is scheduled to be published and released on September 23, 2008 , and book four's release date is unknown so far.
