I think I like this Punisher more than I like the one from the Punisher movie.

Edit:
I did like the Punisher movie. Just like this Punisher more.

So, binge over. I liked it quite a bit. Some of the action scenes were a bit overdone, but for the most part the fight choreography was pretty solid. Story wise, I could have done without Fisk. His bits could have left out entirely and it wouldn't have mattered much. Frank could have gotten out of jail another way. The whole Black Sky thing needed more explanation. I've never read the comic, so I was feeling more than a bit lost during those bits. I did rather like this version of the Punisher, granted my only experience with the character is from the movies, so not much to judge him by. I wouldn't mind seeing a series based on this version.

Trending on Social Media is a thing from Zack Snyder on why he didn't use The Flash's actor for the Flash in the Justice League. Something about the TV Universe not having the right tone.

Gotham Penguin is in trouble. His new siblings are going to try something. Not sure if the Father is in on it, or if he's being authentic. But the rest of the family definitely hate him. Probably gong to be the event that triggers his relapse. Though, I'm not 100% convinced that his rehabilitation is real, and not just an act.

Supergirl Super secret alien experimentation lab. And they are trying to imbue humans with the alien stuffs. Including Danvers Sr.

Yeah, why would you want what makes the shows interesting and smash hits when building your own universe? Smiley: rolleyes

Gotham: Watching Bruce get beaten is so great. Also Reubens and Lord are so similar that it's kind of scary, both play off each other quite well. Also Nygma Smiley: thumbsup
Lucifer: That piano scene between Lucifer and the priest was great. Also the scene near the end where Lucifer is playing Knocking on Heaven's Door was a good touch.
Supergirl: I know I was harsh when the show started, because it was pretty horrible, and there's still plenty bad, but credit where credit is due. I enjoy the small touches. Next week Flash episode.
There's also Better Call Saul, Blindside, Angie Tribeca, and Bate's Motel is back, and the Omen series Damien, and this is just Monday.

Tomorrow Batman v Superman pretty much goes live, and the review embargoes go down. I imagine it'll be lots of positive reviews, and easy $200m weekend take. And in the other direction, The Crow remake has lost another member as director Corin Hardy leaves for greener pastures. Only Jack Huston seems to remain in the lead role, who replaced Luke Evans, who replaced Bradley Cooper. I was kind of interested, since the rumors were this version would be more like the original comic, and I think there's very little neater in the world than a skeleton cowboy, who was painfully absent the first time around.

I also liked that the flashback scene to Kara's first day at Catco had the same sort of "firm handshake" thing that was in the first Superman movie (with some variation of course). At least I swear that scene looked familiar to me. After the whole bit flicking peanuts in the bar from last week, it was a nice touch. Things like that don't detract from the enjoyment of new viewers and provide a nice bonus for folks with more history (ie: we're old!) with the genre.

Shut your whore mouth and get off my lawn. But yeah, Easter Eggs on these shows are my favorite parts.

Only really posting because I'm bouncing around metacritic, mainly for Batman v Superman since the review embargo is over and ... and it is not pretty. The general consensus seems to be that it's a visually beautifully dark two hour commercial for the next ten installments. Will either edit or just add another post for other stuff. Relatively "big" news how it's doing, I imagine.

Edit it is.
Flash: Kind of cheesy monster-of-the-day plot, can't make the jump but can at the end. That was one hell of a gory endings, considering the general tone of the series. Did not expect that, though in hindsight she's just there as a lesson to the hero to not take shortcuts.
AoS: In much the same way as Teen Bruce, watching Poots get beaten up was cathartic. Kind of a weak episode, but it's a lead-up episode for the spin-off, though still a pretty solomn and downer ending.

In lighter news, Peter Serafinowicz has been cast as The Tick in the remake. Zendaya, who seems to be some sort of Disney Channel actress, confirms she'll be in the next Spider-Man movie.

You're braver with your money than I am. I just want to know if the rumors about Peach Tea are real.

Arrow: Leaving the dead bodies in a heart shape was cute. Felicity continues being the worst character of any show I've ever seen in my life, and that includes the rumors/critics about Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman.

The Agents of SHIELD spinoff, Marvel's Most Wanted, adds Oded Fehr and Fernanda Andrade to the crew. A recent Fandango survey shows that more than 80% of the people who want to see Batman v Superman say their reason is for Wonder Woman. Not sure how I would answer. I'd like to see Wonder Woman, but at the same time Gal Gadot is a horrible actor. Chris Lark and Eleni Larchanidou are working on a highlight reel to try to get a Captain Britain TV show made. Could be neat, though he's more associated with the X-Men, so not sure how that'd work.

According to Deborah Snyder, producer of Justice League, the movie will have a lighter tone than Batman v Superman. She explains "'Justice League' is a little bit lighter, 'cause some of these characters -- you know, Flash tends to be a little bit more comedic, I'd say." Another producer, Charles Roven, added "You didn't have to have seen 'Man of Steel' to enjoy 'Batman v Superman', 'cause it's a standalone thing. 'Justice League' will have some references to 'Batman v Superman,' and that story will feel in certain kinds of ways connected to it," which to me sounds like they're just now discovering how the shared universe thing works.

Batfleck confirms he's working with Geoff Johns on "something," though no confirmation on whether it's actually DC related or not. Most likely it is.
Ben, about Geoff wrote:

Now I just think he's bullsh*tting me, because he says he wrote everything. He and I are working together on something and I really am excited about it and I love him. He's the best.
I mean, you have to ignore all the standard Hollywood schmoozing, but he does say they're working on something.

Batman v Superman has already made some bank, surpassing Avengers, Age of Ultron, and Iron Man 3's box office takes on Preview Night premieres. Granted, Wednesday night is the night people go that were going to see the movie no matter what, but still that's an impressive number of zeros. I may still see it, just not opening weekend. I'll take Turin's word on the matter.

Finished Daredevil season 2. It was good, but the fight choreography suffered quite a bit in the last half. I can't tell if it just got worse, or if the choreography issues are just more noticeable in larger fight scenes.

Ok, BvS review time.

General impression, I didn't hate it. I went in not expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. The movie does have it's problems, but I'd say that it's high points out weight the low. More than one review I've read made a big deal about this movie being a setup for the Justice League movie, and those bits are in there, but they hardly take over the story. There might be about five minutes worth in the whole thing.

I do think that the motivation for Batman and Superman to be fighting was a bit contrived, it did what it had to for the story, but overall it didn't work for me. A two minute conversation would have cleared everything up had they taken the time to actually talk instead of just beating on each other. That fight scene though is the highlight of the movie. It's more or less what I imagined a fight between them would be, Batman using his gadgets and superior fighting skills to counter Superman's ridiculous speed and strength.

The acting wasn't bad, they did what they could with what they were given. Some of the dialogue isn't very well written, but at least the actors deliver well. Afleck is a better Batman than I thought he would be, Cavill is pretty much what he was in the first movie, and there really isn't enough Wonder Woman to judge.

There is going to be some serious spoilers in this next bit, so don't look if you don't want to know some major plot points.

The fight with Doomsday was a serious let down. For the most part it's Doomsday throwing around a lot of AoE and eye lasers and Bats, Sups, and Wonds (man that last one just doesn't work) pretty much just dodge and pose a lot. It's a painful to watch CGI fest that I was more or less bored by. Then we get to the big climax of the fight where Superman thrusts a Kryptonite spear into Doomday and Doomsday shoves a bone spear thing through Sups, and they both die. I saw it coming a long way off, especially considering that Doomday kills Superman in the comics, so I wasn't really surprised. I was just hoping that they would have made it permanent instead of throwing Superman a lifeline in the last scene of the movie. I would have loved to have seen a Justice League movie without Superman. He's just too powerful, he can pretty much everything by himself. The Justice League with him in it more or less makes the other members irrelevant. So I would have loved it if they'd had the balls to just flat out kill off Superman and not bring him back.

Anyway, I'd give the move a tentative thumbs up. I certainly liked it better than Man of Steel, but not as much as The Dark Knight. I wouldn't blame anyone for giving the movie a pass and waiting for the R rated version.

Side note, the peach tea bit is real.

Smiley: disappointed

No, seriously. That's not Luthor behavior. Smiley: mad

Daredevil: Half way through. The first half with the Punisher was pottery. Quite good, and Frank's story really tugs a few heart strings. Hits a little close to home. Then there was Karen in the newspaper file room looking through old stories, and the editor just happens to remember an almost anonymous story? I mean, come on. Painfully contrived. The awkwardness between her and Matt is good, though. Worked a lot better than everything with Electric Nachos. I guess you have to follow up with more Yakuza/Hand action after the first season (And you really can't do an Elektra Daredevil story without Hand involvement), but somehow it just felt out of place. After the first act with the street-level gangs and Punisher, it seems the series got completely dislocated.

According to the box office, Dawn of Justice took in $170m domestically, and $430m worldwide. I'd argue that isn't really surprising, considering the hype and anticipation surrounding the movie and characters involved. James Wan says his take on Aquaman will be less bleak than the tone of Batman v Superman, which doesn't exactly sound like a difficult task, all things considered.

Today there was a "Batman vs Teen Titans: Dark Injustice" episode of Teen Titans Go!

But, it was largely unrelated to anything Batman vs Superman. I was disappointed.

Edit:
Supergirl/Flash I enjoyed the crossover. Cheesy jokes and all. Miss Grant's comment about the "Non Threatening Racially Diverse" cast of a CW show was funny.

I debated between watching Gotham and recording Supergirl and versa vice but I decided I'd watch the show that I regularly enjoy and record the show that has the ocassional interesting element.

Gotham: A painfully generic episode, but Reuben and Lord make such a great combo in their roles that even the most mundane was enjoyable to watch. If it were any other actors I'd probably switch the channel, and today there was actually something to see on another channel. Sick patriarch being made sicker by younger gold digging spouse for his riches, the appearance of a true heir causing desperate manuevers by family who are possibly out an inheretance, even the use of the daughter to get the new heir out of the picture is borderline generic. Another painfully generic move in prison, the "ally insisting he isn't going to die gets beaten." I spent the rest of the episode expecting a military guy to show up and read a letter from back home from his girl-next-door girlfriend and how when he gets back he's getting hitched. Even the faked stabbing and "Hit me to make it look like I didn't help you" were unconvincing and unoriginal. I can't think of a single element that wasn't picked up from casually browsing tvtropes.

I know I'm the only one in the world that probably noticed it, but the GCD (Gotham Corrections Department) stickers on the jail washing machines Gordon was working at was a nice touch.

Supergirl: Awkward Geekiness: The Episode. It was kind of like Barry x Felicity before she became insufferable. Why the Irish villain is dressed like a Dia de los Muertos cosplayer I'll never know. At least she made fun of the CW. Could have done without the flustered Jimmy subplot. I kind of wonder if they'll mention what happened in tonight's Flash.
Lucifer: Honestly, I kind of zoned in and out for ninety percent of the episode. The little girl was cute.

Speaking of Flash, Kevin Smith confirmed that Jason Mewes (The Jay in "Jay and Silent Bob") will appear in his episode of The Flash, proving once again the power of nepotism. I wouldn't be surprised if the crew from Comic Book Men show up as well.

Surprise surprise but Gambit is being delayed again due to rewrites. I'd guess to try to take advantage of Deadpool's R rating surprise. Shyamalamadingdong confirms that the Cryptkeeper will be in his Tales from the Crypt remake. Good, you just can't have TftC without Cryptie.

@ BvS: Dawn of Justice.
It appears that after making a "gritty" so-so sci-fi movie called Man of Steel (that doesn't even really have Superman in it until just after he murdered someone) Zach Snyder has decided to tell all his critics to **** off and doubled down to make a sequel called Batman v Superman that now misses two characters in the title completely. I will say that Wonder Woman was pretty great, but while Snyder's Superman was improved slightly having Batfleck be a gun wielding murderer who has prophetic dreams from the future (and then dreams within dreams (OR IS IT?!?!)) is quite out of character for any version of Batman.

Pros:
It has Batman in it & Affleck is fine. The branding and murdering not so much.
Henry still brings no joy to Superman, but this version was a slight improvement over MoS.
Wonder Woman appearing and throwing down with Doomsday was fantastic.
The fight between Batman and Superman was fine, but resolved in the dumbest possible way.
While also resolved in the dumbest possible way, the fight between the Trinity and Doomsday was mostly fine.
Batman vs henchman that kidnapped Martha was also pretty great. I can kind of forgive the one guy he shoots and uses the line, "I believe you." from The Dark Knight returns, but in the comic he doesn't die. I can forgive the kills & guns during the "nightmare", we can pretend the shots he fired rescuing Ma Kent were flesh wounds - but all those people he kills in the Batmobile? Da' ****?

Cons:
The other two+ hours of this movie.
Seriously, they kill Jimmy Olson right off the bat. Thats NOT a spoiler. You wouldn't know that was Jimmy Olsen from the CIA if you watched the movie. You would only know this if you watched the credits (but don't because there are no after credits scenes). At this point you then have to sit through 2 hours of dream sequences, plot holes, the ********* Lex Luthor imaginable, and Batman murdering, branding thugs he knows will then get beaten to death in prison, & working out.

Its no wonder Superman wants to stop him.

Seriously, its a terrible movie. Its structure is awful, it misses characters completely, its needlessly violent, and its completely without any joy until about over 2 hours into it when Diana Prince gets off a plane and Wonder Woman shows up. It is the only time I smiled. It also helped that the music was terrible throughout (I stayed for the credits (Again don't, theres nothing) and there is seriously a traditional instrumental played by monks using a human thighbone in there) but the WW theme was awesome.

Wonder Woman and her theme. Watch the trailer and play that and you will have a better time than at this movie.

Flash They almost showed a link to the Supergirl crossover. In the Supergirl episode, Barry had a device similar to Earth-1 Wells' Tachyon amplifying device. In this Flash episode, Wells-1 gave Barry the Speed Formula, and I thought for a moment he was going to give him the Tachyon device from his suit. Or at least talk to him about it, but it was there prominently in the background.

The Time Wrath looked an awful lot like a Speedster. When I first saw it, I assumed it was the Girl-Flash from the previous episode, just trapped in the area between times. Then at the end when it was draining Barry, it definitely had a face that matched Barry's drained face wearing the mask. I think that would explain the whole "Time Wrath vs Speedster" thing a bit. I haven't read source materials so I don't know if they exist or what their relationship is there.

I don't know if Sisco has worn it before, but I liked his Bravest Warriors t-shirt with Catbug DJ. "Drop it!" "OK!"

I was catching up on Monday shows so I didn't get to watch SHIELD. Will have to catch up on those tonight.

Knowledge through proxy, so take with grain of salt, but there's a Black Flash that represents Death because apparently regular Death can't catch Speedsters so they get a special Grim Reaper. It's one of those ridiculously overpowered things that turn me away from DC books.

Flash: Barry screws up the time line and the obvious difference is the sound guy being good now. I can imagine Barry messing with time, again, is going to lead to Eobard's return in some way. Probably a season or two later, along with Eddie. Other than that, just Barry bumbling from one scene to the next. Wells' yellow suit always had the tachiyon donut on it's chest when it was being stored. Maybe in the next episode Barry will build it and that'll link to Supergirl, but so far the crossover is pretty one sided.
SHIELD: Watchdogs were almost entirely a nonissue. Almost blew up Fitz, but the list of people that have almost killed him is pretty extensive. Lots of name dropping, but beyond that more of a universe building episode, heading towards Civil War. Introducing (or rather reintroducing) some elements and there will hopefully eventually be a payoff. The thing about SHIELD is that it seems most of the episodes are boring until the last few and the finale which tend to be excellent. Kind of the opposite of Flash.

Apparently there's a petition to get Zack Snyder away from the DC movies. Mostly a waste of time, since Justice League starts filming in like two weeks, and I doubt Warner/DC cares that Snyder's films are divisive. They see BvS is closing in on $500m.

Meta-Mewes! The folks at @cwtheflash were kind enough to include a cameo for my hetero life mate @jaymewes in the episode of #TheFlash I directed. As a longtime lover of everything that ever aired on @thecw, Jay was ecstatic to have scripted lines in one of his favorite shows (plus, he got to visit the @cw_arrow sets across the lot). But I also found an opportunity to sneak #jaymewes into another scene as well - this time as a masked super villain. And even though he had no lines as the Meta and is unrecognizable, THIS was the role that reduced him to tears. I've seen #JayMewes cry twice in my life: one time it was about the birth of his only begotten daughter, the other time was after he wrapped his super villain bit on #TheFlash. Jay gave me a huge hug and said "You made my dream come true, Moves." You see, Jay never planned for @jayandsilentbob; while he certainly inspired the cinematic duo, it was never his dream to play Jay in the movies - it was just something that happened to him. But this boy LOVES his comic books - so much so that I've never heard him say he's ever read a bad comic book (and I know for a fact he went deep on the I'll-fated @marvel "New Universe" titles back in the day). He doesn't dissect superhero material, he just consumes. Analyzing is for academics: Jay's just there to see his heroes come to life. So to thank me for sneaking him into the @dccomics universe, Jay took me to see @batmanvsuperman again (my second time, his first). I liked the flick more on my second viewing (see 1 hour review on my #KevinSmith #youtube channel). I'd said the film didn't have any heart, but after the second viewing, I actually found the heart in #batmanvsuperman: it's in the viewer. And the viewer I watched the blockbuster with the second time was all agog, eyes as big as saucers. During the Knightmare sequence, we shared a moment that even elevated the flick for me: when the winged New Gods nasties attack #Batman and take him down, Jay (age 40) & I (age 45) simultaneously looked at one another and whispered reverently "ParaDemons." It was a beautiful moment shared by two lifelong fanboys who were delighted to see their childhood flash before their eyes.

Arrow: "You'll have to excuse my little friends. Their ... beeeeehavior can be appalling sometimes." "Lay down, beeeeeyatch." "I'm trying to be a beeeeecon of hope." The bee puns were unbeeeeeelievably stupid. The bees did Voltron so that was kind of neat, at least until they somehow forgot how they can send little parts of themselves out and burrow into people and kill them from the inside and decided to kung-fu. I think trying to lighten the tone to match Flash, while still trying to keep it Batman-esque just isn't going to pan out here.

Another petition over Batman v Superman, this time to have the R-rated version to screen in theaters. No real reason given on the change.com petition, but it was started by Bruce Wayne so that's not interesting at all either.

Looks like someone at Warner/DC has gotten a hint, as reports "from sources close to the film" say that Suicide Squad is going through major reshoots to lighten the movie's tone and increase the humor. So some good might have come from BvS.
