Thanks you Morwyne for your "fair play"Follow

#1 Mar 19 2006 at 5:38 PM Rating: Good
Hé Just wanted to show how wrong is to stay fair play

tonight we decided My friends Kotarukun, gatsuu and myself to see is we can get "Joyeuse" on the way we bring a another friend (bayman) who need this word too but he come to help me in first place to get it. Once there I could get one bard (raguza) and an another Ninja (Ephdel) who made a long way to help me (thanks again for your kindness Eph). On Charby place there was a another party (Morwyne whm and his ninja friend shuri). OK after a few hours the claims charby they couldn't beat them and we proposed alliance after some minute I got invite to form it and we says free lot ok ? a several time till we remark that our all drop were immediatly to Morwyne (quatermaster) we asked to change it but no response. Badly for us I didn't disband the alliance and Charby was nearly dead and naturally he or she get the sword.

His excuse was I helped so much players in a all years and noone want to help freely --> our remarks is if you don't accept help in exchange of free lot for everyone say it and don't hide it

You say you helped a lot of players nice from you and your kindness for us you show indeed your "fair play" anyway enjoy
your sword

for the rest here is my "fair play" TOD of charby 9:30PM GMT+1

Just to post my end of this thing:

Shuri, a friend and I killed Charby yesterday (Sat. 3/18) at 5:33pm EST, just the three of us. Shuri got his sword. Shuri went back 8 hours later and killed placeholders for 4 hours before passing out from exhaustion (it being around 2am PST by then). We went back early this morning (8am PST) and started killing PH's again together. We were there for a solid 4-5 hours today killing placeholders before it finally popped. Your party showed up about 2-3 hours after we did. Not that effort ever means anything in camping NMs in FFXI. You can spend 1000 hours doing nothing but clearing PH's and no one's going to give a **** when it comes time to claim; I don't have much experience camping NMs, but I'm not completely ignorant.

Anyhow. A while after your party gets there, and Gatsuu sends me a tell asking me if I'd like to alliance. I asked him if he was there to get his party a Joyeuse, and he said yes. I told him, 'No thanks, I appreciate the offer, but I've been trying to get this sword for over a year and I can't bear to be lotted against anymore,' plain and simple, no gray area there. He knew my intentions. I told him straight out I did not want to be lotted against.

So after a long while more, Charybdis pops (much to my dismay as I was AFK at the time), and Shuri claims. I come back from AFK just in the nick of time. A ways into the battle I get another tell from Gatsuu, 'Alliance with Censor'. I hesitated because I didn't want to be lotted against, but then I made a huge mistake. I told Shuri to send the alliance invite because I assumed that since I had already told Gatsuu my intentions earlier and he made NO mention of wanting his party to lot, that you would be offering me your help in killing the NM and getting the ToD for your party.

When the alliance was formed, Shuri (who had alliance lead) QM'd me since we were there with the intention of getting my Joyeuse. You party did not ask for free lot until Charby was nearly dead, and by then if you had noticed QM you could have just as easily dissolved the alliance. You can't expect us to be able to change our minds within the last 60 seconds of battle.

I had told Gatsuu I did not want to be lotted against, and he offered the alliance a 2nd time after it spawned without saying a word about having your party lot. It was my mistake for not assuming that you would want to lot, but if that was the intention you should have had Gatsuu tell me that up front before I had Shuri invite you.

I consider myself an honest and fair player. I don't cheat people or do anything to impede them because I have no reason to. It was my mistake for assuming you were just offering to help after I had made my intentions clear to your leader much earlier, before the NM spawned.

As I told all you while we were still in Sea Serpent Grotto, I am enourmously grateful for your help, and it was my pleasure to assist in keeping your party alive and cured up while you helped us kill Charybdis. I had no intention to do anything to interfere with your party, and I am very grateful for the help you gave me despite all of the 'f*ck you,' 'I hope you die,' and other colorful comments that were made toward us.

In the future, if you want to offer your assistance to someone in exchange for free lot, please make that clear to the person up front. Some people might make my mistake and assume the offer was out of kindness. I apologize deeply for the misunderstanding.

Congrats Morwyne!

Sorry we couldn't get it the night before. I was just dog tired, I was already falling asleep waiting for place holders to pop. I wanted to be there to get you your "Joytoy" considering all the help you've given me!

BTW, that Neejee comment was funny as hell!

Just my advice; getting ToD for Charybdis really isn't worthwhile. He's not a 21-24 hour respawn, but he's not something like a 2 hour respawn either. It's smack dab in the middle pretty much, I've heard it can be anywhere from 8-16 hours, and he's not always claimed/killed with consistency even when it does spawn, which can skew his expected respawn time even further. All of this combined makes the ToD sorta worthless information to have. It's very difficult to track down a ToD on this guy on your own and still manage to bring friends to kill it for the very next spawn, due to his irregular respawn times. Even if you can camp for the next spawn, there's no guarantee you'll be able to find it immediately, it can still take hours of camping before you'll pop it due to the huge respawn window.

It took me a weekend to get this sword (I sincerely feel for anyone that's taken over a month, let alone a year, trying to get this ; ; congrats Mor), and I spent all of Saturday trying to camp for a ToD. I got it, but turned out that any help that I could have brought for the next spawn would be asleep at that time. So on Sunday I just brought the THF that agreed to help for this to camp with me, at what was pretty much a random time, and it took 2-3 or so hours of camping for it to pop. My Saturday was pretty much wasted effort. I didn't spend much longer on Saturday waiting for a pop than I did on Sunday.

This guy is mostly a matter of luck, just a different kind of luck than with most NMs. Some NMs can spawn and be claimed regularly but have crappy drop rates. (I personally took way more time trying to get my Moldavite Earring than I did my Joyeuse.) On the other hand, this NM is tricky to spawn and get claim on, but you're assured of the drop if you win. In the end, aside from the fact that you can't solo this NM and that it requires certain help, it's not all too much different.

Hot tip: If you're having a hard time trying to convince a THF to help you with the camping, note that there is some Sahagin NM outside Charybdis's room, one that I think has a pretty nice potential drop (hell if I remember what it is though). RMTs tend to be camping the other NMs behind the gold coin door, but not this one; I didn't see any RMT when I was down there. Dunno how it is now, though. But it's worth checking out.

Hot tip #2: Just because you see other campers, don't get discouraged. One, they're usually unaware of when Charybdis will spawn or when it last died, so it's not like that just because there's people there it's about to spawn (I encountered many people who just "gave up" after a while of camping, while waiting for ToD on Saturday). Also, even if another party gets claim before you, don't give up hope just then, either. My Joyeuse actually came from a Charybdis that managed to defeat another alliance first... they had two PLDs split tanking, and they still got rocked before Charybdis dropped before 90%. Suffice it to say, if you have to fight this with shadow-less tanks, you are gonna need more than 3 dedicated healers.

What is this pattern and/or tricks?

The spawn window just seems too big for the ToD to be useful, and I dunno how to get NMs to pop faster aside from killing their PHs (which was regularly occurring).
